Alternate Shore Power Location?
Our 38GK came with a genny prep package, but we plan to go solar if we go alternate energy source at all. I'd planned to use that area to store shore power cords, etc., and I wonder if a 50 amp connector could be hard wired into that bay, giving me the option of connecting shore power through the stock plug in the rear of the unit, or through a new connection in the genny bay. My last coach was a 30 ft HR TT which I towed with a one ton dually high-cube van. I remember how many times my cord wouldn't reach the power pedestal, and I'll bet this will be worse. How long is the 50 amp cord they supply us with, anyway? I have a 75 ft 30 amp cord which I'll bet will come in handy - we plug in the Prius through this. Thanks...

Could be done, others have done it. I think you'd need a transfer switch so that if you plug into the front that the rear wouldn't be hot. Could be a dangerous situation otherwise. You could probably get around this by putting in some sort of manual cutoff switch as well.

Thanks for the input. This seems like a reasonable modification since all the power inputs should be right there in the genny bay. Yeah, a big honkin' power transfer or cutoff switch. I'll call my dealer to see if they'd take money to make this mod for us. :-)

I'm not sure, but check behind the Genny compartment for a Transfer Switch, seems to me I remember it being part of the Gen Prep Package. If you already had a Xfer switch, you could just connect a front power rcpt where the genny normally would connect.

As stated in other post, that's where our powered cord reel is connected...
it's mounted over the third battery in the front of the drivers side basement and is connected right behind the batteries...
the power cord drops out of the basement floor right below it...oh, it's a manual unwind, but a powered rewind with the rewind button shown right above the red wire above the reel....
