I am evaluating various 5th wheel hitches. I am close to settling on the B&W Patriot 16k.

Does anyone have any experience with this hitch? Pros and cons?

No matter what hitch you go with, I wouldn't go with anything less than an 18K. Remember the gross on these RWs is in the 16 to 16.5K range so you would have no wiggle room with a 16K and could actually exceed it's rating.

Ya I updated my 16K to an 18K before I even picked up the Redwood. That brand hitch is a great one.

Have been using B&W hitches for the past 15 years with no problems, just took delivery of our new 2014 F350 with the FORD hitch package and have a new B&W companion hitch with the pucks to go in it. B&W's customer service is also the best out there.

I just purchased the B&W turnover ball and 20K new Companion hitch. I had the factory in Humboldt, KS install them, they only charged $45 to install both. I am very pleased with both products the new style Companion has more height adjustment plus a 20k weight rating and 5k pin weight rating. They only use steel made in the US and everthing is made in house at the factory in Humboldt.

I've had the B&W 18K Companion hitch on my truck for a year now and have had no problems, it never hangs up like a lot of hitches and when the jaws lock with the safety pin in there is no worry of it coming loose.

When I did our Provincial driving test we had to have a hitch with SWL 20% greater than the coach GVWR.

I agree that an 18K hitch should be considered. I had Ford install a Reese Elite 18K removable slider hitch.
