Bad smell from kitchen drain

We have a bad smell coming from the kitchen sink. I am very careful to not put food down drain at all. It is a sour smell. I have cleaned thoroughly. I have tried drain santizers, they seem to work for a day or so. .. then it's back. I am a relatively meticulous cleaner--so this is frustrating! Ideas or cures??

Do you leave grey water in tank, or do you have valve open at all times?

What type of sanitizers have you used, some are not the best choice for RV use.

Discontinue all use of chemical cleaning agents. Water flush sink and tank to remove all chemicals. Go to Wallyworld or home improvement store etc.and get liquid Ridex or similar product. Follow label for application, or put four to five ounces mixed with a good dose of dishwashing liquid, mixed with five or so gallons of water. Let stay in tank as long as possible, but continue to use sink...Then make a spray solution, about one ounce to sixteen oz water to spray in drain after use. Could take days to work as natural enzymes don't move fast. DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICALS!!!!!will kill enzymes.

Don't hurt to use a baking soda solution daily to help keep drain clean. Ok to use with enzymes as it will help balance the pH in the water.

I have used the same chemical in the grey tank as I do the black tank a couple times a year in hopes of breaking down the food particles. As others have said, keep that valve closed as well.

I rarely will keep my valve open. When the tank fills up....I dump it.

When mine starts to smell I know it's time to dump tank. After dumping I use Campa Chem Natural bought at Walmart & it smells like fresh cut flowers.

For years, I've used Pine-Sol mixed with water. Of course we travel quite a bit and my solution has a chance to slosh around in the tanks for a period of time. I'm sure that helps quite a bit.

LL, If the trap under the sink is not holding water than you have another issue. The trap is designed to create a water seal and keep all gasses / smells from entering the people tank (inside of the trailer). If your traps keeps emptying, then something is causing it to siphon out, or it is not installed correctly. Good Luck

JB2...............Elemonate is what I have used in both gray water tanks for 3 years and there has never been any tank odor. I put a tablet down the kitchen sink drain and the bathroom sink drain after dumping the tanks each time.

Smile thanks for the great ideas

Thanks for the ideas and feedback. We have some direction now. We do leave the valve closed, so will try one of the ideas.

We use blue in all our tanks only in lesser proportions. Works for us. Dump twice a week when we are there all the time.
