What deep cycle batteries are best? I have been searching the 'net & it seems that Trojan & US Battery make some pretty good ones. What have you experienced RV'ers found to work best?

Interstate Deep cycle batteries. They are used in many marine applications.

I ended up with Exide. I have no idea who makes a better battery, but I'm most familiar with Interstate and they always have a good showing at the RV shows.

IMHO,Trojan Batteries are the best - especially for pairing 6V golf cart batteries. Much higher capacity and great for a solar powered system.

What group battery is the largest that will fit in the battery boxes? Will be picking our 38rl up in a few weeks and wanted to make sure dealer gets us 3 of the largest that will fit since its got the residential appliance package.

My RL came with two Interstate Group 27s. Don't see how anything larger would fit.

I looked at 29s, but they measured out too big.

The new 38's may have a larger battery area than the 36's. Remember......the 38's had been created with having the "Carriage" names on 'em. Too bad......really. They showed up in Mid September when the Carriages were to suppose to be introduced.

Dave, check this special edition Redwood down in the Features/Options section right column - it says "Limited/Carriage Edition"

Carriage is just a name and just because it is on something doesn't mean it is better or worse. Had a 2006 Carriage, and now have a 2012 Redwood. Which one is better, I don't know. They both have their good and band points, but well satisfied with both.

It wasn't about the name in its wording.

There's a little bit of history at Redwood. Tom Montague had been on the ground floor of a company called "Redwood". Later, Redwood as a company, purchased the "old Carriage" real estate (in a press release from Redwood).

Tom appears to have been a very passionate individual. He seems to have been instrumental in the changes that happened about every 6 - 8 weeks at Redwood.

I had a conversation with him at one point where he had discussed that the "Carriage Resort" unit was going to be bigger, heavier, and unique features to its name. The introduction was said to be in September. Thus, comes the "38" units in September. Tom had parted ways with Redwood in August.

I've been watching Redwood since 2011. You have purchased these 5th wheel units just like everyone else has. You've helped Redwood to build their trailers and add additions, such as the 38's.

Tom had a vision and a passion for the "Carriage Resort" and was about to realize his work. Obviously, Tom and whom ever the other powers-to-be had a power struggle over this and Tom was either released or reluctantly quit his duties at Redwood.

In my opinion, this is not about Redwood versus Carriage Resort. It was about what this Carriage Resort was going to stand for.

Thanks for bringing it up !

The unit that is labeled " limited carriage edition" is an old unit not sure if it was special order or not but it has been there awhile. We went to that dealer first to check out the Redwood lineup and were not impressed with the dealer. The new supposedly carriage models are 38 models.

Brad - is this the same Special Edition model that was first posted on this forum back in the Spring/early summer. I recall that those units had different paint schemes and new features that were reportedly being trialed for the upcoming Carriage models.

I'm thinking that unit was an experiment or prototype - I noticed the graphics incorporated into the sides of the slides, the dining table now introduced in the 38, and the soft ceiling.

PS - I don't think the 38 carries the Carriage name - as discussed above. I think that idea is on hold or went away.

I think you're right. I've seem that unit before.
Whenever I see that paintjob though, I go out & appreciate my classy original Redwood paint scheme.
That's what happens when you are trying to exceed "tasteful"...

Not a good sign if it is still sitting on the dealer's lot.
