Battery replacement

Any recommendations on what brand of batteries to replace the ones I have in my 2015 31sl. Both my batteries are bad for whatever reason. Getting ready to change them out. I had Walmart deep cycle batteries in my last unit and they did an adequate job.

That's what I use, highly rated by Consumers Report. Of course, Interstates are also good.

They put some crappy generic batteries in from the factory. They also put crappy tires on from the factory, but that's another thread.

My 31SL only came with 1 generic battery from the dealer. I don't do any dry camping so I installed 1 Interstate battery. I had one Interstate in my previous 5ver and it was great.

I had the same problem with mine. One battery shorted out so I replaced both with interstates. Both original battery's had no name brand no #s nothing to tell where they came from. The dealership or redwood reimbursed me about 2/3rd of the cost for the new ones. We were in the trailer for 2 mths

Replaced my batteries with two golf cart 6 V batteries from Costco. $160 for the pair and they are made by Interstate. Lots of capacity.

Now you're talking... That's what I'm doing as soon as I can chop a path through the ice to get to the battery box... UGH!

That's a good price for the golf cart batteries. We don't have a Costco around here close, though. That would be the best way to go.

We're using two maintenance free Interstate Batteries that were installed the day we picked it up three years ago. Still going strong.

By the specs, I'm installing a new battery box and (2) Trojan T-145 6V. That should make a big difference dry camping before I have to hit the Onan button.

I have 2 Interstate batteries that have performed well over the past 3 years. Make sure you do not draw down your batteries to low while in use and keep them charged during storage with a solar panel. If you try to adhere to draw downs of no more than 50% on deep cycle and 40% on standard batteries, you should get good life out of them. Also do not mix brands.

The dealer replaced our originals with Interstates during the pre-delivery inspection. We were told the originals froze during a bad winter at the manufacturing plant.

Converter issues w/6v batteries

I have to replace my bstteries and am thinking of changing to two 6V batteries in series. It looks like several folks have done that. Are there any issues with the converter for charging when on shore power or the genset? Are there any other gotchas folks have run into?

Great choice!

The only complication is you'll have to get a different battery box and vent it. The 6 volts set taller than the standard 12V so the factory battery boxes won't work. Ken and Donna came up with a nice replacement box.

I had them convert to 2-6 volts when I purchased, no issues ... They changed the battery box and this it.

I'm sure you'll be smarter than me. First time dry camping I neglected to realize that the genny is wired into the same 12V system which feeds other on board systems. Bottom line, you're Genset won't start with a weak battery bank. Duhh.
