Electric Heat
Hey Friends,
Anyone have trouble with their electric heat? We ran out of propane and turned on the electric heater,, and nothing but cold air. I know this is just a back up, but i was really depending on it.

if the outside temp is below 40 degrees the heat pump will not work. It will only blow out cold air.

Yea! What he said!
If below 40 degrees you'd be better off using the fireplace rather than the heat pump.

A Heat Pump works by extracting heat out of the outside air, once below approx 40 there isn't much heat left to extract.
Some more expensive/efficient units will work down to lower temps, but there is still a point where any heat pump is useless.

Actually it's more efficient, if the temps aren't too low, than the furnace, your furnace is a HUGE lpg hog once it gets really cold. Plus the 30 or 40 lb propane tanks get really heavy once you start removing them for refill every 4-7 days when running the furnace. Best to run the heat pump as long as it puts out heat along with the fireplace, once the indoor temp drops 3 to 5 degrees below the tstat setting the furnace will take over.

also I believe the heat pump will not turn on if the thermostat is set more then 4* warmer then the current temp inside the coach. If its below 40* outside then your only getting the furnace on propane. fire place , cube heaters and some propane is about all you can do once its below 40*f

Remember, only the furnace will heat your basement, so if it gets too cold, you my have problems with the plumbing in the basement.

My controller for the heat pump was put on the wrong a/c at the manufacturer. My dealer located the problem and put the controller on the bedroom a/c and it works fine now. Mine is a 2019 388ES. Might want to check if it’s never worked correctly

Elliott - I’m seriously considering the Cheap Heat have talked to them and if we do another winter in the coach I’m going to install it. Should pay for itself in one or two winters based on previous propane usage.
