Ethics Question

Is it bad practice to negotiate an upgrade to an item that is about to be replaced under warranty, providing that I pay for the cost difference? Specifically, for me, my inverter just fried itself and I would like to get an upgraded model.

I’ve done this in the past (on other items) and sometimes the dealer agrees and sometimes not. What do you think?

Most don't know how to even SPELL ethics anymore

but, not at all an issue if you pay the difference, but typically a mfg will not allow you to upgrade...

One discussion point you could use is that THEY would not have to warrant it any longer

I tried that with my awning ... it was being replaced under warranty due to the fact that the wire that runs down the side for the LED’s broke. I wanted to upgrade to the alumaguard and pay the difference... It was a no go..

NOW, I just replaced the front awning with Carefree as the original had very bad wrinkles that would NOT straighten out no matter what.. I dealt directly with Carefree... They offered to ship a replacement ( same as came with) free, but when asked to upgrade, I would have to pay full price...
