That's the one thing I hated about the 38gk without genny,
by the time we had driven for hours,
set up in the heat and waited for the rv to cool down (usually hours),
I was a wrung out limp rag
Many times would leave the truck idling, unhook, plug in, turn ac's on high, not even open slides so less volume to cool and leave !
And that's the best thing about the "other type of rv we have now"...
I have to LEAVE the cold air to hook up - love it...

10 to 100 F is 15W-40. That is their OneMax oil you see on the shelf. Colder temps get call for 10W, even 5W depending on the extreme.

so true, I guess I can either burn the diesel in the F450 or the propane. To stay cool. I'm in Baton Rouge and have the same weather you do. Thanks

I just got a price from Bus Supply in Mccomb, Mississippi to install a Onan 5.5 on propane. Cost was 8200.00, does this sound about right? I was thinking the generator was only around 5,000.00.

That's high, do they understand you have generator prep?
I would try an RV Dealer. I think ours only wanted 1,200 to transfer our Onan 5500 and Washer Dryer from the old 5er to the Redwood. Ended up doing it myself but I would think install from the purchasing generator Dealer shouldn't be over $1,000.

They are the only Redwood dealer in Mississippi and they know i'm prepped. I called Onan for a local dealer. Thanks

That's real high ! You can purchase an Onan Gold online for around $4,000.00.. add the LP kit and the install.... I understand that they are in business to make money . but NOT THAT MUCH on someone..

Buddy ~ the local Crossroads dealer quoted me $5980.00 last year. He said the biggest problem with the install for him was getting the exhaust made up.

I purchased a 6500 from Norwell last Oct 4900.00 a 5
5 is still 3900. I purchased the muffler kit for 50.00 and another 100.00 for the propane line. I had a rv tech install it for 450.00. Norwell has the best price on gens received in 3 days.
It should not cost more than 5600.00 to have one installed

(I posted a new thread on this too, FYI) has anyone added an AUTO GEN START? If so, which one did you use and any advice? We are getting one added next time we head in for service. I want the programmable kind that allows for "quiet time" and thermostat-activated for A/C's while travelling or away from the coach! :-) The starters are relatively cheap on Amazon.com
