Heat Pump

My heat pump unit works fine on ac but only blows cool air when set to electric heat. Outside temp is in the mid 50’s. Any suggestions?

You can only set it for 2 degrees higher than the current temp in the coach or it will revert to the furnace for heat. Then you have to go in 2 degree increments to get heat where you want it.

I have been trying and only go up two degrees at a Rita’s suggested. Thanks. Our unit is 7 years old. How many have had to replace their ac and/ or heat pump units and how old were they when you replaced them?

It doesn't feel warm right a way but if it is working properly it will blow warm air using 2 degree increments and as long as outside temp is not below 40 degrees. Ours is almost 8 years old and working. We did have to replace the forward a/c unit this year. It was not a heat pump.

Our 2013 is 8.5 years old this year. Rear AC Heat pump is original. Replaced fan motor this year. Front AC unit bit the dust this year and I decided to replace it with a heat pump unit. Wasn’t a big deal to change over and now we have two heat pumps.

Could you share the model you replaced your front unit with. Mine is like yours and it seems I may have to replace my front unit so might as well convert to heat pump like the rear unit. Did you go with a higher BTU unit! Mine are 13,500 units looking at going to 15,000 for the replacement. Did you do the change out yourself, if so how difficult? Thanks

Hi Vance. Both of my units were 15k so the replacement was also. Footprint is the same so there is no issue upgrading.

First, the good news - the control cable going up from the thermostat to the unit already has the unused wire that you will need for the heat.

The bad news is that you must replace the thermostat and also the controller up top inside the unit. I’ve attached pictures of the ac/heat pump model I used and also the controller and thermostat. I can’t find the paperwork on the thermostat but as long as you buy the same type, you should be fine. You DO NOT want the same one as your living room that has both gas and electric heat.

Cost - this may vary. I hit a sale on the unit and paid $915.00 delivered. The controller came direct from AirExcel and was $185.00. Thermostat I got from an RV place in Florida and was about $85 if memory serves. Parts were tough to get, lots of back orders.
I did replacement with a friend. Hardest part is getting units up and off the roof.

Piper guy!
Thank you for ALL the information! I took your information and tried to see what I can buy the parts for, looks like with the way things are screwed up right now I’m looking about $1800 for everything. I can buy the 15,000 btu replacement(without heat pump) for $930, so thinking for now I’m going to go that route and at least enjoy the higher output unit cool wise.
Thank you for your reply! One question you own a Piper?

Vance

If you have one heat pump you can get by just fine , If you done have one then I would suggest you look deeper into the upgrade unless it never gets cold where your staying.

No problem Vance. And yes, I did. Learned to fly later in life (50 th birthday present to myself), bought a 1984 Warrior II with 2 friends and then proceeded to fly it everywhere for about 16 years. Lol. We flew into Oshkosh 9 times and camped on the North 40 with the plane, all up and down the east coast ( home was 58M, Elkton, MD on the Chesapeake Bay). Then like a lot of things, life and other things started getting in the way and we sold it when none of us were really using it. Was too nice a bird to be just a hangar queen.

I’ve got a little less than 1000 hrs and the last entry in my logbook is flying it to the broker ….. miss it and the flying
