Heat Pump Issues;

So last Friday night, I turned on our heat pump in the living room. As soon as I did so, I noticed a noise coming from the rooftop unit fan. I immediately turned the unit off and switched it to gas heat. On Sunday afternoon I removed the cover on the unit and turned the power off, I spun the fan shaft with my hand and the motor made a awful sound. I ordered a new motor and capacitor. So, now the motor is installed and it works great on A/C however when I switch it to Heat Pump mode it comes on for a second or two and automatically goes to gas heat mode????? WTH???? I really don't want to rely only on gas for heat? Thermostat? HELP PLEASE?

How much above room temp did you set the T-stat?? If more than approx 3 degrees above, the Furnace will kick on. To keep the Heat Pump on you have to slowly raise the T-stat keeping it no more the approx 3 degrees above room temp.

I also figured out that if your outside temp drops below 32 degrees, the heat pump cannot do the job. I like to sleep in the cold so when I get up in the morning I adjust the thermostat up 2-3 degrees above the shown temp and just keep adjusting it up 2-3 degrees Everytime it shuts off until I get it to the desired temp. I believe in using the heat pump to its max!
