Ideas to close the microwave flapper ouitside

Hello all ,

I read somewhere on here last year all the different ideas on how to close the 2 little locks on the vent flapper... I cannot find that thread , what do we all do?
I use a small step ladder that I usually have with , but want options . .

Someone I think used a Woden pole with some sort of screw in the edge>??

how about a magnet glued to the flap so that you can push it closed and it stays? then pull it open when you need it ?

I just use an approx. 3 ft. dowel rod that I shaped differently on each end. One end is a step that I use to push the flapper shut and then push up on the clip. the other end has a notch cut in it to pull the clips down when opening it. Beats getting a ladder each time.

I've never relocked mine. Is there a reason I should?

We use a dowel rod also, but just put a cup hook in one end. Most times you don't even need to use the hook end to move the two latches.

Made this from a cheapo fish net, one side to open other to close & it's telescopic.

Many people on here have lost or had them damaged while travelling down the road. They don't stand up flapping at 60 mph

This is what makes this site so good/important. I didn't know about this at all and not sure if it is locked or unlocked. Thanks.

I try to always keep mine latched when not in use. When it's in storage and spring time. I worry about birds building nests in there if I leave it unlatched

You should lock it closed when traveling or you could damage it.

Guaranteed at some point you WILL lose it if you don't latch it while traveling, lost 1 traveling & 1 in high winds.

My 16 year old truck camper never had a flapper. I'll deal with it when it's gone.
