With a Queen you may be able to get by with 1/2' or 5/8" as you won't have as much hanging over the edge of the frame as our King.
Did you have a problem with the bedroom slide closing? Is the sleep number the same size as the mattress that comes with the Redwood? I know my current mattress pushes up against the built in dresser. We've debated a sleep number for some time. I like the existing mattress but the wife says it is too hard. The sleep number may be in our future.

We replaced the king mattress with the sleep comfort rv king . Didn't have to make any modifications and just removed the mattress that came with the Redwood and replaced it with the select comfort.

We never even took the plastic off the OEM mattress. Moved our Sleep Number from the Montana to the Redwood the first thing. I think the Sleep Number might be a little longer, but being nothing but a fancy Air Mattress it compresses a little without a problem. We've been sleeping on it for almost all of the 2 years we've had our RW.

Try a 3 in. thick memory foam mattress topper from Costco.

We've tried the memory foam toppers and hated it! We even had an expensive mattress with a memory foam built into it and my wife actually cut the topper off of it. I haven't measured our mattress that came with the 31sl so I'm not sure which queen I would need to get the regular queen or the RV Queen. The RV queen is a few inches shorter. There apparently are quite a few adjustable air mattresses on the market but we can only find the sleep number that makes an RV size. Not sure if Redwood puts RV sizes in their coaches or if they just use a regular size. A lot more choices available if a reqular queen would fit.

We still use our Redwood mattress - no complaints.

Our last rig we had 2" memory foam on top of the RV mattress and it was great. I don't think I could have done 3 or 4 inches, as I would feel like I was drowning and they do get hot when all wrapped around you.

went from a 2" to a 4" memory foam topper on our queen RW bed. Love it!
