New 2021 RW 4001 LK-Thoughts

I see several comments about the 2020 4001 LK. My first day on this site and glad to be here. My wife and I plan to buy 2021 4001 LK in December. I am somewhat concerned about towing with rear kitchen.
I plan to get 2021 F350 6.7 SRW with Anderson hitch. I still have research to do on hitch weights and overall towing 16,800lb.

We've had zero issues with the rear kitchen and weight. We live in our 4001 full time and love it. I would still strongly recommend the DRW! We are right on the max edge of weight ... our pin is 3920 lbs and overall 17900 lbs. I got the very top end GMC 3500HD Durimax Denali and it was still $12K less than the F350 ... and I am a Ford guy. This GMC has been excellent!

Do you experience swaying/fishtail when towing?

Not even a tiny bit ... it is rock steady. RW balanced it all out by putting all the tanks forward

Thanks, I’ll look at the DRW. This will be my only vehicle and my wife does not want to drive a dully.

Sorry, I just can't buy that there's a 12K disparity between the GMC and the F350 if they are comparably equipped. We all understand that dealership's vary in pricing, so perhaps that's what you've discovered. There's often as much as several thousand dollars differences from one dealership to the next selling the same product. There are any number of things go into play here, like inventory, incentives, etc. So if you do you're doing due diligence in your shopping, you'll find that the prices match up very closely between the big 3, otherwise; they'd quickly be non-competitive in a very competitive market. Successful manufacturers everywhere understand the marketplace better than we think.

Agree that there's an issue with the weight on a 4001. You're now entering the DRW world. We've looked at the RW 3901 that has many of the same kitchen features, lg. bedroom, lg. bathroom and lg. walk in closet, yet at a significantly less gross dry weight and pin weight. I think that might be a good alternative, but that's your call. Despite which direction you go, understand that both inside and outside storage of the newer RW's has been dramatically reduced when compared to models made earlier, like in 2017 or even earlier. I've written to RW about that, but I think they pushed the mute button on extra storage, so chances are, it's not going to change.

Mine didn't either but now she loves it! Is our only vehicle too and love the extra stability of the DRW. We added a 100 gal fuel tank to the bed wit a tool box and scrolling tonneau cover. The SRW would not have permitted that. We also really like the B&W hitch too! We looked at the Anderson hitch but I really liked the B&W better

GMC costs

Check it out yourself ... I built all three online and the GMC was 80, RAM was 85, and Ford was 92! Then I went to the dealers, drove all three, and bought the GMC ...

With diesel? Also, you would have to get the Limited to match the option level and comfort of the Denali ... I just looked at one online this morning and on their dealer sale was $89K

Had my oil changed on my my truck last week and I looked at a very paltry stock of F150’s and not one SuperDuty on my Ford dealership’s lot. I know the owner well, and he said it’s very difficult locating a new SuperDuty Diesel F250 or F350 today. Demand is high, supply inventories are low. Maybe that has something to do with pricing at this time, I don’t know. I looked at GMC, in 2018, and there were some unique features, but in the end, I bought the F350, priced much the same at that time. I just felt the F350 was more intuitive and I liked the features and ride better than anything else out there. It’s a personal thing, you’re not going to please everyone. So, congrats on your finding that good price and your new GMC.

I am good friends with the owner of a local Ford dealer.. he has told me that since the Pandemic, Super Duties are very hard to get... He sells them as fast, or BEFORE they hit the lot. He is also naming his price and getting it.

As of yesterday, there were a handful of lower level 150's... 6-8 super duty's with cargo beds... thats it

I work for a Chevrolet Dealership. We have 50 trucks inbound and received 20 yesterday. Those 20 will be gone this weekend. However it looks like the factory is now shipping units again although it will still be slow...

I can only speak for my area. If you find one you like, buy it because the next guy who looks at it will. I believe we sell 1.5 used for every 1 new.

I like the market being up. I just sold my 2018 F350 for 1000.00 more than I paid for it in 2018.

Jim - used market for very clean and well equipped Dually like yours and mine is crazy.
I had my 2013 into Ford dealer yesterday for routine service. Was in the waiting room and the used car mgr came in and asked who owned the pretty brown and tan Dually ?

Said it was mine. He offered me $40k for it on the spot and was serious. I said that was nice but it would cost me more than twice that to replace it. He said he can sell a nice used Dually right now with a phone call.

To the original poster - if you get into a big Redwood with a SRW and put anything in it you’re kidding yourself if you think you won’t be overweight big time on the trucks rear axle and tires. Many people have tried ( myself included when we first bought her) and wind up trading very nice trucks for a Dually and then never regret it. And if you want to do yourself even more of a favor, go to a 450/4500

I was interested in the new GM 4500 or 5500, but they are using an older version Duramax and are only Cab & Chassis. Didn't want to go backwards on engine or spend another 10 to 20K for a Hauler Body and Ann says our truck has to have a pick-up box on it.
The issue with the F450 is the same 14K GVWR as the F350, but is a heavier truck which generally results with a slighter lower cargo capacity.
