Slide toppers

Can anyone tell me if the 2016 36RL models are to have covers over the slide toppers?

Only if you choose to have them, they are an option!

okay. I don't remember seeing that on the option sheet. we got the uniguard awning upgrade, it just looks like the slide topper is missing something.

My toppers are only the aluminum base , they LOOK like they are missing the upper portion but Carefree says no.. I was told that once they place a top portion on , that traps debris in there and it becomes a pain..

I can speak from experience , our last ( SOB ) trailer had the complete covered toppers , I was climbing the ladder ALWAYS , removing the 2 set screws on both ends , flipping the top up , and cleaning out the stuff...

This set up looks much better , and so far so good , NO build up of stuff..

It's true ......stuff does get trapped under those covers BUT those covers protect the vinyl from the sun rays that breaks them down. Ask Carefree if that is the case, why do all the big diesel pusher have covers on theirs?

Without the covers, the toppers will have a shorter life

The toppers I had on my other trailers lasted 4 years before I had to change them out.

These were tossed in by the dealer... Beggers could NOT be choosey.. after the post here , I forwarded a question to Carefree asking if the tops can be added... Having had BOTH . the base looks identical to each other , right down to the mounting holes for the upper portions.

My last trailer was at 8 years and the only stains were on the tops where the water sometimes pooled after rains...

Our last SOB 5er had the covers on the carefree slide toppers and I did not like them, they stayed full of debris and leaves most to the time.
I like our current Carefree Toppers without the covers, since we fulltime, our slides stay open most of the time so I do not think the covers will do much to lengthen the life of the toppers and I do not have to clean them out all the time.

My Redwood didn't have toppers because I didn't want them. When I got this bus, it came with them so I was stuck (they come as standard equipment). The topper covers protect the slide topper material from the sun when the slides are retracted.

Although I've never liked slide toppers, I haven't had any issues with them yet and no noise at all even in high winds. I can't even hear when it rains so even if they were flapping I don't think I'd hear them.

Our last SOB MH had toppers without covers. They stayed out for at least 6 months a year and we owned it for 8 years and never one problem and also no signs of wear at all. They were white so didn't see any fade. I did miss them the first time I ran the top slide in on the RW... I was a beginner and took a bath along with washing the carpet. I now know to lower the front and drain the water first! Another lesson learned!

We have the covers on our awnings - and that was a nice treat option, as the UV here really pounds down on the fabrics. If I were to get slide toppers, I would want the covers as well.

Not all slide toppers are created equal - the cheaper fabrics are pretty well shot around here within 5-10 years if they sit outside.
