Anyone installing a solar system? If so, what type of set up.

Lillyputz - Going through old posts and noted this one.

We have just installed a Solar System from Go Power, a local Canadian company. The system comprises:
- Solar Panel GP-RV-155 rated at 155 W & 8.61 Amps
- Pure Sine Wave InverterGP-SW1500 rated at 1,500 W. This operated all 110v appliances except A/C & Microwave
- Digital Solar Controller GP-PWM-30
- Automatic transfer switch rated at 30 Amps

We started with a single panel, but can add additional panels at anytime.

Can U ball park the cost. I am looking at adding 1 to OUR 36FL?

I have (6) 6 volt Interstate batts, (5) 140 amp panels, 2000 amp pure sine inverter, 65 amp controller, control panels and all the hardware sitting in the garage. not about to install on our junk rv. approx. $3,000.00. This system will run everthing except a/c, for days.

We paid about CAN $2,400 installed. An additional panel was about $600 and the 2,000W inverter about an additional $500.

With all the additional batteries and everything else where do you put it all. Plus we stay in the South a lot esp. North Texas and S Oklahoma where tornado alley is and a lot of hail. How is this going to hold up in hail and wind?

Solar panels are made to withstand the average hail stone. Key word being average. They will stand up to baseballs hitting them but most hail storms will not be a problem.

Can you tell us where you ran the wires down from the roof and where you installed the charge controller and inverter and (extra?)batteries? A picture would be appreciated. Thanks.

Riff Raff, I put a 4-140 watt panel system(560 watts) with a 200 watt Prosine inverter with 6 t-105 batteries at Discount Solar, in Quartzsite, AZ. Quote was for $5500.00 with installation. I took the materials to the rv park and did install myself. They will open again for the winter in late Oct-Nov, I did this install on a 36fl.

I had the dealer install, so not sure where the wires are routed from the roof.

The inverter is in the basement, as it must be within about 10' of the batteries/transfer switch. The transfer switch is in the battery compartment, the readout panel is located on the W/D compartment bulkhead and the controller is adjacent to the inside control panel.
