Survey: Max Mattress Thickness

So we are wanting to get another mattress. The one in the RW is nice, and it's good enough, but we want to upgrade to a memory foam, which we love. We will put the RW mattress in our truck camper and that will feel wonderful.

The mattress in our RW is 10" thick. MOST of the mattresses I want are a little thicker than that. I really would like to go 14 inches but I am afraid that would be too thick for comfort (ie: bumping heads on the ceiling when sitting up in bed, etc.) Plus, we would all but lose our "headboard" behind it! There are a lot of 12" models that would work, but less than that, they are mostly "economy" and I don't want that.

How thick are some of your after-market upgrades and what are your feelings on the thicknesses?

Thanks sooo much

I was looking the other day at our Memory Foam Mattress that we swapped out of our previous 5th Wheel.
It is 8" thick, all though it is much better than the factory mattress, we too are looking at a thicker 12" Mattress.
The concern I have is our 38FL has opposing bedroom slides so when you close the bedroom slides the bed goes under the upper wardrobe / TV section by pushing the lower spring loaded wardrobe drawers in.
With that being said, there is a limitation of how thick the mattress can be, guess I need to measure it the next time I bring the slides in.
If needed I could remove the metal bedframe and put a piece of plywood in and give some more mattress height room.

Go on the web & look up "rv mattresses", I'm sorry I don't remember which site, but they have some memory foams in all thicknesses & firmness & at much better prices than mattress stores. We had one in our last 5er, unfortunately we left in there, & it was fantastic & about 10" thick. It was shipped in a tube about 18" in diameter, stand back when opening, it grew to a king size & 10" thick in about an hour.

Don't know if you are trying to save the original décor, but as you add height, more of the frame is exposed below, at least it would be on ours. The bedspreads are pretty much custom fit to what is there.

Yes, we already talked about that, and we REALLY like the bedspread. Definitely will NOT tolerate even ONE INCH thicker. I think I am going to keep looking for a better quality ten inch mattress

We told the dealer don't even take the plastic off the mattress that comes with it, we swapped in our hi density foam mattress from the previous 5er and so we are sleeping on the same mattress we are at home when on the road

as far as thickness, not sure, but with a good mattress,
thickness is not the most important measurement

good luck !

Ha Ha - can measure the one here at home, it's 12" because it uses fitted sheets - and no, not fulltime

That appears to be the website, king was $499 five years ago. The RW has a queen, previous SOB had a king or we would've swapped also.

We moved out queen memory foam topper out of our old travel trailer (purchased at Costco) into our RL and really love it. We sleep so well that I can't justify spending $1K for a sleep number (and we have one of those in the house).

With the 36 FL you can't easily change the thickness of the mattress so we bought a 2" foam topper, also from Costco.

Prior to closing the slides we fold the bottom end of the topper, sheets, etc up to the top of the bed, so only the original mattress goes into the dresser when the slides close. Once the slides are open we unfold the topper over the lower 1/2 of the bed.

Works well and is as comfortable as home.
