If you are towing a 5th wheel you have either a V-tailgate or a conventional tailgate with a dent in the center of it! This is my way of saying "been there, done that-got the bumper sticker"!

Our older 5er had to be so close to the truck when hitching up that the truck had to be in line with the trailer, otherwise the corner of a lowered tailgate would dent the trailer.

Ya we had the same issue. Mine tailgate was within 1/2 inch of the trailer when perfectly square. I had to remember to get out and operate the gate as I was halfway through hitching or unhitching.

Saved my gate doing it that way for 10 years, but none of that counts when I backed into my camp spot after a day fishing and shoved the pin box through my raised gate because I wasn't paying attention

OK, thanks for the perspective. As the Redwood is the only 5th wheel I've ever had I hadn't considered that. Makes a lot of sense now.

I can actually squeeze between the down tail gate and the RW if I'm square (that's if I'm lazy and don't want to walk around), but wouldn't even think of towing with it down, not that much room.

I use my camera on the tailgate when not in tow, I leave mine up when towing.
