Sounds like you have a clogged vent. John

What is the cause of this back pressure?
Thanks in advance,

I appreciate the comments about the vent blockage. In fact that’s what I thought as well. I ran the hose thru it, talked to the factory, and my dealer even removed wall panels to confirm that this black tank has a solo vent. This is not a vent problem in this unit, it is a design flaw. When the pyramid builds up where the elbow goes into the bottom of the tank, the remaining space between the pyramid and the toilet ball valve is left trapping methane gas from solids in the pipe. Thus it burps when flushed, pushes the pyramid and sometimes just plain stops up. So we now know that it was done this way at least since 2015 390 models and continues in 2019 390 models. I plan to present my dealer and Leonard Nielsen copies of this topic in the forum and ask for, at a minimum, a redesign for future buyers. And a redesign and correction for current owners.

It would be nice to be able to flush normally without having to use and waste a ton of water each time because redwood didn't plumb the toilet correctly.
Fortunately, this forum has both identified the issue and figured out a work around, but this is wasting many gallons of water, putting strain on both the immediate issue of tank storage and water capacity, and the continued strain on the environment.
I hope that Redwood cares enough about this to redesign this and offer a fix for those of us who have this crappy design (pun intended).

I have had zero issues with the half bath. The only difference I can see is the half bath dumps straight into the top of the tank. The master, on the other hand, has an elbow and dumps into the side of the tank.

Long story short, the kitchen gray is vented with a studor vent under the island, explaining only three rooftop. They removed wall panels to verify that black had a dedicated vent.

They surmised that I needed to change the brand of RV toilet paper. I used the coach five nights since, switched to Scott paper, and experienced no issues. But, I have a strong suspicion that the elbow may be the issue. The test will be when I get the coach out with the misses who LOVES toilet paper.
I find it hard to imagine that the toilet paper is causing the problem, I do not put any paper down the toilet and I get the issue as well, in fact it is only when the tank requires emptying or as it gets close to that point. I am sure its the elbow causing the problem.

So what do you do with the paper?
Oh! Never mind, I can only imagine & don't really want to know!

Toilet burb

I had that problem on 2015GK. Cleared it by inserting bladder valve on water hose and flushing out sanitation line. The toilet must be full of water before flush! The fifth wheels have a 90* turn to black tank. While most other RV have straight drop. We burp no more.

I am new here so sorry if I am not in the right area. But I am having problems with water entering the water heater with the brand new Redwood bypass valve I just installed. I have no idea where to install the check valve they sent and no ready access to water heater! Antifreeze just flows into water heater. Help. 2015 GK

I think some of the plumbing on RWs is screwed up. We sprung a leak in our Hot Water Heater last spring and I thought, put it in Bypass and I wouldn't have any water leaking while changing the heater, WRONG. Plus in checking some of the routing I determined that I had Hot water mixing with the Cold at the Outside Shower connection.
Really need to take the time and re-plumb at least some of the unit.

If you're not the original owner or even if you are, it may be the tank has a poop pyramid built up directly under the toilet from either leaving the black valve open (which should never be done) or not using enough water per flush.
I'd do some serious black tank rinsing thru the black flush & down thru the toilet til the water runs clear.
Also another thought, if you're looking at the sensors to determine the black tank level, or the grey, DON'T, they are worthless. As I said, that burp is how I can tell when the tank is nearing full, I NEVER look at those POS sensor lights.
As for rv toilet paper, haven't ever used it, DW hates it! Any "septic safe" 2 ply paper has worked just fine for us for years.
On exactly the same page as you Danny. Our sensors work up until the first time the black water was filled. have never been accurate since then. We just stand back and wait for the "Burp" as we slowly flush the toilet! We use our in-tank scrubber when we dump the black tank, (about once a week) and I dump several five gallon buckets of water through the toilet about once every three months to help breakup any pyramid in the tank that may have formed since we are stationary RVers. Works just fine for us.
