Trail Air Tri Glide

Have been looking at threads concerning this pin box. This is what came on our '17 38 rl. It seems this pin box was nothing but trouble. I contacted Lippert to see if there was an upgrade available, and there is for the price of $666. I almost seems like it would make sense to just buy the new model rather than pay that much for the up grade. I have seen the Mor/Ryde model on Amazon for as little as $529. What do you guys think.

A 2017 unit should have come with the Flex Air pin box which is an update to the previous model that was problematic. I believe people have been happy with the newer Flex Air in general. If you have to replace what you have I like the MorRyde Rubber pin box. MorRyde is also excellent to work with.

Flex Air has been wonderful. Much smoother ride...

My 2017 came with the Trail-air.

That said, after reading the issues here, I make sure all 9 zerks are greased. I have had zero problems yet but do not put near the miles on mine that most people here do.

Currently mine is just an expensive camper

Yours may be an “EARLY 17”. Mine is an EARLY 16, picked up in July of 15.... so mine has MOST of the resemblance of the 15, with the badge of a 16..

I assume that only benefit could ( ?? ) be resale value ???????

As Larry said, make sure all 9 grease fittings are greased regularly. People forget that there are 3 up inside the pinbox that are a bear to get to. They also are the most important. If it starts to have a lot of slop and banging, even with fresh grease, replace it.

Your choice at that point, but I decided I'd had enough of Airbags and went with a MorRyde pinbox. Very happy with it.

My RW is a 16 1/2 I will say. It has some of the features of the '17 (Dark wood, etc). I think that the sales person at Tiara said it was a spec model. It has the little trunk in the back and other things that the '16 had. That being said we are taking it to Mor/Ryde this coming Wed. to have the IS installed. It may come home with the Mor/Ryde pin box. Piper Guy are you on your way west?

I called lippert and ask the tech for the lower jaw do to the slamming and he said ok send me pictures of the pin box and the frame serial numbers so I did and they called back an hour later and said we will ship you a new lower jaw kit. three days later I got the lower jaw and all new hardware along with the new shock and air bag. So I think the results depends on the person you get on the other end of the phone.

I loved our tri-glide! it just floated back there, but after some of the issues reported by others I would probably have replaced it.

You're probably right. I e-mailed them through their customer service link on their website. Do you have the phone number that you called? Mine didn't have much movement at all when we brought it home. So I greased it and now it moves back and forth pretty easily with my hands. I don't think it is supposed to move that easily.

We received the updated lower jaw from Lippert under warranty. It has worked flawlessly with no problems.

I had a problem with our 2012 36FL. I called Lippert and asked for a new lower jaw, they sent it and there was no anti chucking feature in it. I called back and said I wanted a roto flex jaw. Tech said it would not fit, I asked, why would I buy an anti chucking pin box. Lippert sent me a new pin box, a roto flex this time.

The Tri-Glide worked great on our '12 other than the need to add air to the bag every few weeks. But the one with our '16 slammed and banged from day one no matter how much it was greased. Tried to get something different from Lippert with no success, so at the Rally a couple of years ago we sent the Tri-Glide to the scrap yard and had Mor/ryde install their pin box.

TriGlide failed last year and stranded us in San Diego for two weeks. (There are worst places to be stuck.) Lower sliding plate moved 1/2 Inch vertically on rear corner and banging noise was excessive under tow. The whole sliding mechanism got very sloppy. Called Lippert and they over-nighted a new lower jaw and all hardware. They forgot to weld king pin onto lower jaw. Called Lippert and they shipped a new FlexAir to San Diego. Installed and towed 80 miles before rubber pad rotated 20 degrees. Called Lippert and they shipped another new FlexAir. Lippert furnished parts and shipping free and reimbursed me for all installation costs. Other than being inconvenient I can't complain about their service and follow up. Scrapped one broken TriGlide, one pinless lower jaw and one FlexAir! Hope fourth time is a charm!

Hi Greg - we were in and out of MorRyde Friday morning. Currently in Lena, IL and will be headed to Iowa tomorrow unless snow forecasted amounts to anything. Not interested in pulling the "train" in white crap.......

I don't blame you. It's still early enough in the season to get into some pretty nasty stuff, weather wise. They are forecasting 70 degrees here in Indiana by the end of the week. About time.

Vaughan, be carful coming to IA. I’m setting here in Charles City, IA at a campground with snow falling most of the day. They are calling for it to stop sometime tonight. Im guessing we have 2” - 4” on the ground.

I talked to a fellow from Lippert today and expressed my concerns about the Tri Glide and he asked me some questions about my RW and I sent him information about it via e-mail and I think they are going to replace the lower end of the pin box. I told him I would be in the area later this week and I will pick it up.
