Wanting larger propane tank.

Hi everyone,

Just brought home our new 2015 Redwood RW39MB. I would like to hook up a larger propane tank. Ive seen others in our park that have purchased a larger upright bottle and hooked it into their system. Do they make a kit that I can buy to make this possible? Or do I need to spend time at the hardware store finding parts and pieces?
All I'm wanting is more storage so I wont have to fill the small bottles as often.

I just went to a Tractor Supply, in the propane section and bought a hose long enough(mine is 8ft.) to reach out and under the existing bottle on the offside. Just unscrew the hose that goes into the changeover valve for the bottle on that side, and get a longer hose that has that size fitting. Remember though, #100 pound(the upright bottles you are seeing) doesn't have that green(female) type knob that your #30 ponders have. It is a male fitting that hooks to the bigger tank, which is really just like the older RVs used to have. It takes about 10 minutes to hook it up.

Thanks Jerry, that helps me a lot. Yes...I was planning on using a 100# bottle. I can see what your were talking about. The 30# has the OPD valve and the 100# has the old style connection.

But the new tanks with the OPD valve still have the old style internal reverse threads, or there are also adapters to convert old tanks to the newer OPD style threads.

This works great you can hook up a 100lb tank or 2 is what I do, an still run off your 40's. That way you can run both 100's dry and unhook them and still run off your 40's while your getting them refilled.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I went to my local propane company, they built me a hose with all the right fittings to hook my 100# bottle up. I'll be able to run off of that and have both my 40#'s for a reserve. $60 out the door with the piece of mind it was done right. Thanks Rick with Wasatch Propane in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I just noticed that they changed the design of this and it will not work, it doesn't have the threads on the outside to connect the hose from the Redwood to.

I think your #30 pound tanks also have the "inside" threads, just like the #100s, as well as the new style "male" threads.

Yes, still have the inside threads. Ever watch when having them refilled, they use the inside threads, at least the places I've had ours refilled.

I thought they did. It was just too cold to go outside and check.

Of course the tanks have inside threads, I was referring to the first adapter I listed the opposite end for connecting to the Redwood hose won't work but the second one will it has the threads on the outside. This little unit works really nice you can hook a bigger tank up plus a grill or anything else up and run off your tanks. When its cold out those 40's don't last long.
