Washer and Dryer - yes or no?

It nice to have everything clean when we get home , We clean out the refrigerator of milk and things that go bad quick and leave everything in the camper year round. Move the cat from the truck to the house and plug the camper in and walk away. On a weekend use camper its your call , just more work. If its your primary residents or your plans are longer then 5 - 7 days then I feel its a good idea.

We had the combo w/d in our 1st full-time 5th wheel & the stackables in the RW & honestly did not notice that lint issue you've mentioned, but both RVs had a dedicated w/d closet, they weren't in the clothes closet.
As for needing them, we fulltimed for 10+ years & dedicating a day for 2-4 hours sitting in a laundromat after driving all around strange towns looking for one that you wouldn't have to burn that article of clothing if you dropped it on the floor, was not on our bucket list of things to do in retirement, so YES they were absolutely a necessity.
If you have the space I recommend the stackables rather than the combo. The combo does a good job with a couple issues, #1 it takes 2+ hours to wash/dry one small load, #2 everything comes out very wrinkled so you'll need an iron.

washer and dryer (2 piece only), an absolute must have.. even for a weekend getaway unit... unless you are in dire need... a combo unit. And YES!!! exterior ventilation is a MUST for the dryer. I say that because one of the biggest detriments to an rv is interior moisture, and think of where all that water from the wet/damp clothes goes?? And 2 piece units.. stacked or side by side.. why???? with my humble experience... and age.. i cant wait 3+ hours for a single SMALL load of laundry to finish...
