Water Filter for 2013 Redwood

I have a 2013 GK with the whole house water filter, it time to change and I have misplaced information with the filter number. I would like to get a new filter before I pull the old one out.

Does anybody know the number of the filter?

Thanks, Jim

When picking up the coach from the dealer we stopped into the store and picked up a new filter. All the filters on the shelf looked to be a standard size, only choice was what you wanted the filter to remove, from the basic sediment only to more advance filters.

Unfortunately it is already installed and don't have a part number.

I have a spare in the garage...
when I brave the elements today will go look at it and post it

on edit - Rick seems to have covered it

We are not overly concerned about the filters as we drink bottled water both at home and in rv...

And, as the wife likes to refer to it, the kitchen has 'decorative potential' only!

I did quite a bit of research on these filters because I was told the carbon filter that came with the Redwood was not good for well water and some of the places we go to are on well water. The filter that comes with it is a Pentek C1 (formerly U.S. Filter) Basically, the filter system uses any filter that is made for a 9.75" X 2.5" housing. I have found Culligan water filters that fit it as well as filters at WalMart, Lowes, and many places on line. You just need to find the right one for your needs (what you are trying to filter out. A great source for different filters and what they are used for is "Omnifilterstore.com" You can also order from them. The varieties are endless and can range from a few dollars for a basic Carbon Fiber filter to mega bucks for a filter that does just about everything. I hope this helps you without causing more confusion.

On my previous post I am assuming all the Redwoods have the same filter housing as my 31SL.

I ended up sticking in some from Camco at Camping World, as I lost the original number as well. It fit. There are so many I get confused and last I heard I had thought the GAC (granulated carbon) or Block carbon was the way to go, but maybe not.

I actually called "Pentair Water" makers of the Pentek filter @ 1-800-279-9404 and they were very helpful. The basic C1 filter is probably most widely used but we were spending 5 months in Minnesota in a family owned Rv resort as workampers and the iron content in their well water was unbelievable. If you were not hooked up to a culligan tank everything would turn red. It was recommended that if we were hooked up to well water to use the Omni T-03 filter but it is a new filter and not readily available unless you order it from the Omnifilter store.

One other thing to consider, the higher price/higher quality filters also tend to have some of the slowest flow rate (as they trap more particulates). JMHO.

You are absolutely correct. Always look at the flow rate when choosing which one. If you get one with a low flow rate you may not like the shower pressure. We ended up taking out the flow restrictor in our shower so we could get a decent pressure to take a shower.

I'm not sure which thread you are talking about, but I recently purchased the "Flow Pur 10,000 Rv Water Softener" from Amazon. They have it right now for $208.00. I purchased this particular one because it came highly recommended by several of my RV friends. It also takes regular table salt which is a plus. I have not used it yet but I decided long ago that if I ever became a fulltimer I would invest in a water softener. It will make all the difference in keeping things spot and stain free. I am going to try and install quick connect fittings to the softener and my hoses to prevent wearing out the hose connections on the softener.

I'm think of changing out my water pump and putting in a water manifold in my Redwood. I'm thinking that this way I'd be able to increase my water flow rate and be able to shut down only part of the plumbing, should I ever have a problem.

I've also considered doing that. It would be nice to be able isolate a particular water line in the event of a problem. When I looked at the DRV Mobile Suites that is the only thing I could see that they offer that I wish Redwood did. I don't think it would be very difficult to install a manifold since everything s pex. I would highly recommend to all Rver's that everyone install a quick shutoff valve at the side of their RV and shut it off everytime you leave the RV. If you have ever had a leak while you were away you know what I am talking about. We had a valve in the toilet stick in a prior fifth wheel and when I got out of bed in the middle of the night I stepped onto a soaked bedroom carpet.....not fun. We couldn't even hear the water running. Needless to say, after that experience I ran out and bought portable battery operated water alarms and placed them everywhere water may be leaking (under sinks and next to toilet and in the underbelly. The alarms have alerted us twice to minor drips under the sinks but without the alarms we would not have noticed it. Overly cautious? Maybe, but for around $30.00 I have some peace of mind.

There was an article in October 2011 Handyman magazine that talks about Pex plumbing and it shows a manifold and how it is connected, very interesting.

I put a manifold in my house for the water and gas lines. It's not hard to do.

I think the biggest problem is where to put the manifold in the Redwood. I'm thinking you would probably have to build a plywood mount and then screw it into the floor close to where the main water line comes in.

If you ever do this project I'm sure many of us would like to see pictures. The Handyman article mentioned a "homerun" system if that helps. It stated that without a manifold system, you lose a lot of the benefits of pex because of all the connections. My plumber buddy says everytime you install a connector you restrict more water flow so the manifold would definitely be the best for water flow and emergency problems.

I just looked at the DVR's at Lazydays, and the one thing that struck me is that they have flush out water connections to their Grey tank. Wish our RL had those. Vic

I can't imagine ever needing to flush out my gray water tanks, am I missing something?

Being a fultimer, we do a lot of cooking and coffee making. Our galley tank sensors are stuck on 3/4 full even when empty. I've tried all the chemicals and back flushing to no avail. A water connection to flush the grey tank sensors would be a big plus to us.
