Wimpy vacuum cleaner?

Is there a secret to getting more suction power out of the central vac? I've only used it a few times and not pulled up anything that should clog it. The suction started out very weak and is almost zero now. Please help!

Have you tried changing the bag? Are you sure there's a bag installed?

Depending on who did the PDI, I have heard that some got out without a bag installed at the dealer.

That sure doesn't sound like ours. There has to be something blocking the inlet somewhere in the system



Our vacuum seems like it has the most suction that I have ever seen on a vac.

My wife (and I) dislike the central unit.
Nice concept but dragging that hose around is a pain...
Got a smaller vacuum for the rv

(None of the three vacuums at home matched the rv so we couldn't use them !!):-)

Too bad it doesn't have a power head on it. Mine has GREAT suction and does a pretty good job. The only problem I have with mine is the static electricity it causes while I use it.

Also it's so humiliating, the way that my wife makes me dress while I vacuum and dust.

Ours works just fine and I asked my boss, who uses it everyday. No complaints here, from someone who doesn't use it.

Thanks for all your replies. It sounds like we need to investigate more thoroughly why it won't suck. Ahh, clearing out the storage unit to look into the innards. That's a job for when we get home from Camp Sherman, Oregon.

like said above, make sure they put the bag on at the dealer. they come with the bag just stuffed in there.

Ours has a lot more suction than our previous Nutone in the Montana. We got the air powered brush beater online from some other vacuum company and it has worked fine for years. I don't like dragging the hose either, but for what little carpet is really in these, I'll probably not bother getting an upright.

What brand is the air powered beater? Do you recall where you got it? I'm not getting the carpet clean (sand, especially) with just the floor attachment supplied with the unit.

Try a vaccuum cleaner store or any major box store who sell parts for there vacs. Usually sold seperately and fit on your present hose. Other than that shoes off at the door.

It's a Shop-Vac brush beater. Not sure where we bought it - somewhere online. We've had it for about 10 years.

I have a small dirt devil upright that folds down and fits into the closet. I hate central vacs. I need beater bars that grab at pine needles and sand, etc. Have been happy so far other than I have to clean it every time I use it. Has a hepa filter and it gets jam packed with every use. I never got this kind of dust out of my Eluctolux upright huge one I had in my stick built home. Makes me sick to think I was breathing all that dust.

Wife had the same issue when we first got ourrig. Found that the hose for the dust device at foot of steps was disconnected. Take the unit out a short distance and check if there is a hose connected. If no hose then your dealer will have to take downthe compartment wall- crawl in and reattach. I told the factory they should be installing an elbow there for the vacuum hose is too tight against the steps and will pop off. I fixed the item myself and while doing so I installed a small central vacuum in the compartment to replace the dirt devil - works amazingly well.

On my 20132 Redwood 36FL the central vacuum was not picking up anything. I opened the filter bag container and found that the bag and the operating manual were stuffed into the filter bag area. The plastic bag, containing the instructions and spare bag was blocking the process. After cleaning up the mess I first read the vacuum cleaner's owner's manual and then installed the bag. Super great vacuum.

At first I did not care for the long hose however after using it for several weeks I do find it great as I can clean the upper wood trim areas, exterior storage area and reach areas a floor vacuum would not be as handy. I had a Red Devil floor vac from my previous RV however quickly took that home after getting us to the central vac.

Someday I will get ambitious and add a port for the hose in the basement. I have about a dozen of those things laying in a box somewhere from when I did the stick house.
