Windows open wider???

Has anyone figured out how to modify your crank out windows to open wider? We dry camp a lot and would love to be able to open the windows wider. Any suggestions?

There is a plastic spacer block in the roller track. You can trim (or eliminate) that spacer as that determines the travel of the rollers. I think you would have to remove a couple of Pop-rivets that hold in the gear and roller mechanism, make your modification and then either install new Rivets or screw and nut to re-attach.

Sounds harder than it really is. I have replaced one of my "regulators" using an air rivet gun and it was very easy....

I removed the plastic limiter a couple years ago with a screw driver and pliers. Used the screw driver to pry enough out of the track to get a hold of with the pliers and pulled. Doing it this way messes up the limiter, but I had no plans of putting them back in. You will need to put a little bend in the arms so the rollers move in the track smoothly.

Today I fixed my windows. They open twice as far as they originally did. I drilled out the two rivets on one side of the bars and removed the plastic spacer. Then I used short bolts and nuts to put the bar back together. The hardest part was removing and reinstalling the screens. I already can feel the difference in the air flow.

If you remove the limiter does it cause the mechanism to bind if you open too far? Or would you recommend cutting the limiter to a shorter length?

No bind. Might need to put a slight bend in the arms so the rollers move smoothly.
