Michelle,
Are you going to go and have the IS/Disc Brakes added at Mor/Ryde ?
I just booked 6/15/15 to have our 39MB done at the service center....

We're ordered the Factory Disk Brakes and 8K axles with 17.5 GY H tires (mainly to get the higher GVWR. Well see how it goes, but may end up back at Mor/ryde for the IS at some point in the future. Really tried hard with RW to get the IS while it's still in the area, but they're still dragging their feet. They want to play in the Sand Box with the Big Boys, but are only bringing a teaspoon instead of a shovel.

I agree with the feels like home feeling. After a day at work coming home is what I need. I jokingly tell people I maintain a house in MI, the RW is my Home.

Michelle and Ann congrats on ordering your new unit, good luck.

Wowsers - you should have a GVWR up near 18,500?!

Regional Sales Rep tells me it's 17.9K, that's why I'm questioning the 18K Tri-Glide and want the 21K Tri-Glide.

Oh definitely - I cuss my 18K tri-glide, because I'll be adding some weight to the receiver before too long (toys)

18K isn't big enough for that trailer in my opinion.

Dave, that's my feelings. I think RW could be opening themselves up to a Law Suit if something were to happen with a Tri Glide failure because of no reserve. If RW won't change, I'll probably work a deal with the Dealership to swap for the 21K as they could be involved for selling that setup.
I wonder if that's some of the problems with the 18K Tri Glide, that's it's just not robust enough for the weight of these things once loaded. I know I saw a 21K on a different MFR unit with a lot lower GVWR than the smallest RW.

I don't think Redwood is required to build in reserve - if it's 18K and the trailer has a GVWR of 18K, they met their requirements. However, I think they are required, or should be required, to account for the 3K hitch on the back, which puts all of these needing the 21K pin box. You might use that as your argument Michelle!

The tri-glide is built like a tank however, far more robust than the standard Lippert pin box. I wonder what really drives the weight rating.

Mine has a 21k Tri-Glide. Not sure what I did to get lucky. I don't have upgraded axles or anything (that I'm aware, guess I should double check sometimes).

It could be std on the bigger/heavier RWs. The Regional Sales Manager who took Hilton's place is pretty new I think, and from some of his answers to my question may have never set foot into a Camper of any type.
His reply to my question on the Tri-Glide was that the 18K was plenty as only 23% of the weight would be on the pin with the balance on the RW axles. Shows at least he's not versed in towing.

I wonder if he ever thought of the jerking from pulling a heavier trailer. I really don't understand why they let anybody who doesn't use an RV....represent a company that builds them.

We first met Hilton at the Tampa show a few years ago. He had been with RW for only a few days before being sent to the Show. But he was very honest and admitted he didn't know the answers to my questions, but would call those who did. This new Guy just seems to spout answers right or wrong.

It appears to me that there is just way too much turn over of employees in the RV industry. Every time you get someone with the knowledge to represent the company well, they get moved on either by choice or not by choice. It's too bad good employees and management aren't rewarded more while keeping them withing the company. I have heard as far back as the 1980's that this has always been an issue within the RV and mobile home industries. So, you get examples such as the fellow in mhs4771's post that try to look like they know what they are talking about but really don't........probably came from a "car sales" background. But, what worries me more is that you have someone in engineering or engineering management that is always trying to cut cost somewhere on the product to show their value to the company.

Interesting point. Initially I think the 38BR might have been the only one rated to 16.5k from the factory with Goodyear G rated tires standard. Obviously if you custom ordered the 8k axles that would have been different.

Guy, I think you're right. Sometimes I tell Ginny "we should just walk away from the RV thing" because I don't trust the companies are doing their best and the RVs themselves are always a bad investment.

We met camping when we were 12 and now after over 36 years of marriage, it's kind of in our blood and we're hooked.

Dave,
What you are saying about the turn over if employees in the RV industry may be true, but growing up in Syracuse, IN I had friends who's parents worked their whole life for the same RV manufacturer. I am not sure why it has changed now to the point people are not staying with the same company. With Redwood being very new to the scene perhaps they have not developed the loyalty with their workers that some of the older companies had...or maybe times have just changed. I know it is a lot harder to maintain quality if things are in a constant state of change and I wonder how all these new brands within the Redwood factory will play into the quality of the Redwood. Sequoia, Cyprus and Redwood on the same line or were they planning to build the new models at a different facility?

Eileen

Eileen, as I understand all three brands are being built in the Syracuse facility...but they have been building multiple brands there for quite some time. Before starting up the Cypress and Sequoia lines they were building the Crossroads Rushmore and Elevation, before that the Blackwood.

Bottom line... Redwood has been building different models and brands for quite some time.
