The pantry shelves should be secured in some way to prevent them from hitting the pantry door. Although there is only an inch and a half between the door there is plenty of room for the shelves to move and knock the door off. The screws on the hinges of my pantry door were screwed into plastic plugs which wet into holes in the door. These plugs may have expanded a bit, but should have been put in place with something like construction adhesive. Be cause the hinges are recessed into a larger hole and were a press on my door, there was plenty of sheer strength for the door, but little strength in and out. If the door opened, the shelves would pound against the hinge side of the door causing it to fall off.
