Our drawers are set back under the overhang also. We have the king bed, and if the drawers were out even with the overhang, there would not be enough room to pull the drawers out all the way.

X2,

I removed the forward drawer to do some work in there, and it b-b-barely makes it.

I believe the wood part of the base is the same regardless of the bed, but the slatted frame is what is different sizes.

AH, Daughters boyfriends are a great resource !!!
Just like on the sitcom Last Man Standing with Tim Allen, he has chores when he comes over

Helped pull the stock mattress out and put the HEAVY foam 72x80 mattress in...
Actually was worried when I first measured as it looked too long, and too tall,
but the stock mattress is rigid on the edges and the foam is well, foam

so worked out well and it's corners are rounded so a bit more space around the foot !!
