They have a double motor per side system on some of the new Winnie's, haven't looked to see any others. If this system had a manual way to pull them in it wouldn't be so bad. Danny I use that spray on my levelers, door locks and everything else that moves. Might have to start using it on the slide too.

Need more information! What 31' fifth wheel? What does the 5er weigh? What year truck? What engine, transmission, rearend, long or short bed, 2 or 4 wheel drive? Lots of variables if you want a good answer. If you ask the salesman he'll swear you could tow it with a Toyota Tacoma or some other toy truck.

Agree that more info is needed. If you are referring to a 31SL Redwood, that particular model is listed as 34' 9". Depending on the year it could be at 12,120 lbs dry, and much more loaded.

Coco, What Chris and Danny are trying to tell you is your need to do the research yourself and make sure. Just asking on the forum will not make it all right.

Do a search on this form under "Cat Weights" and read through the entire thread. You really need to weigh your trailer loaded. Then check your truck owners manual for the correct information including your rear axle ratio....

Diesel or gas? Gear ratio? The sticker in the glove box will say 4.10 if that's what it has and it won't say anything if you have 3.73's. You can go to this link and answer all the questions and it will give you tow capacity and payload capacity:
http://www.dodge.com/towing/D/vehicl...&engine_trans=

You are probably looking at close to 2,200 lbs payload with the diesel and a 13,000 lb tow capacity. All of the Redwoods are over 2,000 lbs pin weight and weigh over 13,000 lbs empty. For payload add your occupants and fuel for the truck and you are pretty much way over the payload. For tow capacity, add gear water, food, and you are way over the tow capacity.

You could be looking at 2,700 lb payload with the gas, but the tow capacity is down between 9,000 lbs and 10,000 lbs.

I would say Yes you can tow it which is only 1/2 of the equation, can you do safely for you & others on the road & only you can determine that from information on YOUR truck weight limits & the weight of YOUR rv. I've seen/ heard numerous guys say "yea my 1/2 ton V6 tows like a dream" the problem is how many miles does it take them to stop it or can they stop it in a panic.

Very true what everyone has said! I tow a 36FL with a 05 duramax 2500HD and yes its fine to me but I would much rather pull with a 3500HD for mine and others safety. If towing with a smaller truck I would 100% invest in disc brakes for My Redwood. just remember anyone can climb it but not everyone can stop it.

There is a lot of difference between 20 miles and 2000 miles with a marginal TV.

So as I understand this correctly you have to remove the trim from the inside to get to the motor....Can it be changed from outside by removing the metal part with the seal mounted....

I tried to remove the outside trim to change mine, way, way, way too much work. There are about 10 screws and caulk on the trim panel, then once you pull the seal back, there are 6 pop-rivets to drill out.
Once you carefully pull the inside trim back, you will see how to access the motor from inside. I used velcro and a staple gun to put the trim back on.
I also purchased a cheat cable from lippert to test the motors. Connect to the control panel (inside the underside storage) and then to the motor cable, run the manual test from the control panel and you can see if the motor is good or not.
Mine was a bad motor and bad controller.

I followed the Schwintek / Lippert instructions and removed the slide motor easily.
From the outside, I moved the slide seal back and removed the single screw holding the motor in place.
From the inside I moved the Rubber Seal out of the way and lifted up on the motor, tipped it out at the bottom and removed it.
Had to replace both slide motors (one at a time about 2 months apart) on my left front living area slide due to broken wires on the back of the motor.
The new replacement motors have a different wiring connection on them, hope they last longer this time.
