I just purchased a Reese bike rack that is adapatable for 2 in receivers. When installed into the receiver there is lots of play. The actual redwood receiver measures 2.75 inches on the diagonal. Any thoughts?
I don't think a 2 inch receiver should be measuring 2.75 inches.

It's a standard off the shelf receiver. Try the bike rack in another receiver and compare

If you will remember your basic geometry/trigonometry,
the diaganol (of a square) = square root of 2 * length of the side.
I don't know ifmost 2 inch receiversarethe same as my truck, but, it is 2 1/16 inches per side. So,
2.0625 inches * 1.4151 (sq root of 2 approximately) = 2.91864375 inches
I think your 2.75 inches might be a little small!  Edited by: hoosierguy

Most bike racks have lots of play. Some like the Yakima's have a bolt of sorts that helps take the play out. There are also some aftermarket kits available from your local bike hitch supplier that can be used to remove the play as well. Nothing worse than a swaying bike hitch with $$$ bikes on it.
Curious if your moving the license plate or just covering it up?

Rick, I will check the brand that I have and get back with you tomorrow. it is in my attic. It does not have any movement. Only thing I have to do is take the pedal off of bike closest to RV to keep it from hitting rear of unit. Works great.

ya mine has a bolt with a lock instead of a pin. It stays pretty solid back there, I hope (can't see it actually).

Camping World and other RV Stores sell a clamp that fits over the receiver and the bike rack mount at an angle, tighten up the clamp and no more play. We have one and use it with our Swagman Bike rack and it makes it rock solid.
