As I understand the new RW now come with the 614G's. They used to have the "E" rated tires as the standard tires, the "G's" were an option.

I also understand that the 8K axles are no longer an option?

I wonder if the loss of the 8K axles is a result of the de-rating to the capacity of the G614s. Would de-rate the axles to 7.5K.
Guess if you want real world 8K suspension you have to go Mor/Ryde and G114s

I learned that DRV has an Independent Suspension by MorRyde as an option. I also read that Lifestyle will do this if asked. Both have an option for "H" range Goodyear tires, which I didn't even know existed. Pretty impressive, at least I thought..

Ya - but then you wouldn't own a Redwood, you'd just own some other brand

So true...We looked at both of those "other brands" at the Rv show and then ordered the Redwood.

On the Road: correct, no more 8k axles.

I actually tried to Get RW to do that with our unit. Their answer: "We work closely with Mor/Ryde, but not that close". So I just made my own arrangements.
Mor/Ryde has a staging lot just down the street from their facility, and there were close to half a dozen units with no identifiying decals awaiting the IS install. So RW could add it as an option if they really wanted to.

I contacted Mor Ryde last February after I purchased my 31 SL and checked into Disc Brakes and NevrLube bearings and it would cost me $3,029 or $2,629 without NevrLube bearings. I was also quoted $2800 for their independent suspension. They also allow you to stay in your fifth wheel on site if they need to keep it to finish the job. I'm thinking of getting the disc brakes put on around the time of the Rally. I just want to make sure I wouldn't have warranty issue in the future if I have disc brakes installed by them instead of having them put on at the factory.

I'd imagine you did your comparative research, and I'm in the stages of doing mine.. which mean's I've not drank "anyone's" cool aid yet. From what I can tell, from a "build" quality standpoint (not interior) there's not a ton of differences between a Redwood and my current Montana. Both have Lippert running gear, though RW's is called Falcon. I can now get 6 point automatic leveling on Montana, though no body paint option on Montana yet, which in my mind doesn't change the "quality" just appearance. RW and my Montana / Alpine / Landmark / Rushmore, all made by Thor, so what's the major difference? Other than appearance?

It's also troubling to me that I'm finding lightly used 2013 RW models priced in the mid 50's to low 60's online. So am wondering "why" a few are being traded in so quickly, and why don't they seem to hold their value any better.. I know all RV's, cars, etc.. depreciate, but gees!

You have to realize that Thor does not manufacture all those namebrands. Thor has purchased these companies but the subcompanies still are somewhat their own entities when it comes to manufacturing and service and warranty on their product. Sure, some of the processes and items are the same but just study their brochures for each product and you will see that they are not the same. On the outside, most fifth wheels look the same but they are not!

That actually sounds like pretty good resale because I know what some of those cost out the door new.

Yes, as we did our research, we found what you are saying to be "in the ballpark".

Most folks seem to be getting 35% to 40% discount off MSRP.

Last non-painted Montana I saw at the RV show boasted an MSRP over $100K. Its all relative.

RVs have a HUGE MSRP markup - its no mystery. Don't focus on Redwood with that statement.

I bought '5' tires rated 'H' delivered and 17.5 rims, with stems to shop of my choice for about $2375.00 only reason I say about don't have receipt in RV.

The more you spend the more they rv drops in value. I've seen Allegro Busses a year old and down $150k in value.

As far as the differences between the Redwood and the other brands you mentioned, if I thought they were better I would have bought one of them instead. I looked at all the different 5ers made without worrying about price (I knew I could negotiate on any of them). The Redwood won hands down. The best part is, almost 2 years and well over 30,000 miles and I'm still happy with the Redwood.

I'll throw this in reference to comparing Redwood to Montana. On our 2010 Montana much of the wood work was just laminated particle board vs real wood in the RW (not saying there isn't some particle board in the RW, but far less than Montana). The ceiling in the RW basement is paneled vs bare alum studs in the Montana. Slide out floor in living room is flush, Montana wasn't even close to flush. There were lots of little differences, so for us it was a no brainer and RW won hands down.

The basement ceiling is awesome! That's my favorite part to show off!
