Thank goodness for alternatives: (Although they aren't always the most wonderful company to deal with either).

Brad
They are the way to go. I have direct. Only problem is the trip we just finished they do not work well in trees or mountains. We had 4 locations that the satellite would not work. I have a tailgate dish for these occasions but like a dumb ass forgot it at home when we left

We aren't very fussy about what to watch (we like to have audio though) so just rely on park cable or OTA, up until this has been no problem. There a couple places in the Texas panhandle that have no tv service, so we have a good selection of DVDs & at $5-7 we can buy a lot of them for what that dish & receiver cost.

Just had a thought Brad, you won't be using your dish & accessories til spring so I'll just use yours that way you'll get your moneys worth & I'll have satellite tv til spring, problem solved!!

Nice that you have that option with the tailgater. Where do you store it (when you remember it ). I thought about doing that.
I had a portable manual dish before and I won't go back to that, I'd rather watch old VCR tapes of Dukes of Hazard than try to set that thing up!

Danny, just take the whole Redwood with you so I don't have to winterize it . I'll fly down if you can give me a week or two in Padre Island or Hill Country then you can have it the rest of the time till May

I usually keep it in the basement and about a month before our trip I cleaned it out and put it in the storage unit. You just plug in to the cigarette lighter and it finds the satellite.

I reserved a spot in Custer park several months in advance and the owner gave me a Satellite friendly spot. My buddy reserved also, but at the time did not have satellite. However, by the time we went on vacation he bought the tailgater, so guess where it ended up all vacation! on my roof with a cable running over to his RV

It gives you a little more flexibility to get away from the trees

Brad, yes, but then you'd need another receiver for the tailgater! BTW, I got a wireless Joey yesterday complete with a wireless access point, dish's version of an exclusive router for the Joey. Slick and painless install.

Uh oh, the tailgater doesn't work on the Hopper? I vaguely remember something like that. I guess no Tailgater.
