I've never had too much of an issue at the campgrounds but I'm always ready if I do. I'm more concerned at the truck stops and rest areas. I'm always chambered and ready while walking around the truck stops and rest areas especially at night.

I agree Dave - those get very scary. I slept at a rest stop once because I was exhausted, but only one eye at a time

The National Parks, and even some of the State parks around here are a concern for me. Seems everytime they catch a murderous fugitive they are camping in a National Park campground. I can't forget that couple that were burned in their 5er. I turned from anti-gun that day.

On the other side of the scary side are the RVers themselves, or "outdoor enthusiasts" as some would say - I took the Jeep above Georgetown, CO to a place called Guanella Pass, which is an open camp national park big enough for equestrians and toy haulers. It was like the Redneck Riviera! Horses, ATVs, beer belly's and flannel shirts, guys shooting AR-15 from their lawn chair while they 5 yo resets the target he made up against the hillside, the sound of continuous gunfire in the background up in the forest. Add some pot and beer and it's no place I ever want to camp. A criminal wouldn't have a chance, and maybe not the women or timid either

I was glad we were inside at the time. If the situation had happened 30 mins earlier we would have been sitting outside with some friends when she pulled up. You just never know when something like that will happen. Wont forget it anytime soon.

For anybody interested........you see these undershirts with built in holsters. They are GREAT and comfortable. Now when I travel I ALWAYS wear button shirts.

Ruger 9mm for this gal! Hubby was a gem and bought a nice holster that goes under dressy shirts ;-) Of course, this was for apartment living in central Florida...Not quite the same as a campground, but some startling similarities, I'll bet.

Either way, so thankful that you guys are ok!! That some scary stuff, but a good reminder that personal safety/locked doors are things we take for granted sometimes!

If that is the LC9 keep an eye on that plastic guide rod. The head broke on two of mine until I decided to go to an aftermarket stainless.

My Wife and I decided last night that we are taking the class winter for our concealed weapon permit. She found a nice little 380 she likes and I will carry my SIG. We have been talking about it for awhile.

Your incident is exactly the type that made us change our mind. Dory was the one that brought it up after that older couple was killed in their 5er years ago.

I've got Illinois and Utah which covers most of the USA. VERY easy to get and it sure ads a piece of mind. According to the top cop in Maine who said:

" When conceal carry first came out I was against it but now we realize that the people that we stop and they have conceal carry, we know that they are honest and we tend to give them more slack"

Yes...when the police run your license plates, they identify who has conceal carry before the officer leaves his or her car.

Funny, this post went from "courtesy" to "security" in just a couple pages.

Dave ~ they only know if you are instate and have that state carry permit. For instance, my Florida one does not show up here in Maryland when a MD cop runs the plate or even my name in drivers license. Have a number of cop friends and all say to let officer know you have permit and if you do have gun with you ask him or her how they would like you to proceed.
Most officers know that to get the permit you are already vetted so they're ok but will probably ask you to remove gun with 2 fingers and place on dash while stopped.

As far as a .380 ~ there are some nice ones now, but if you can, test fire at a range first. I had a Ruger LCP that I liked but the "snappy" recoil was such that once I go arthritis in my wrist I couldn't manage the gun. If I was going .380, my first choice would be a Walther PPK (007's gun), or if that's a bit big, look at a Glock 42 or a LC380 Ruger. The LC9 Ruger has a pretty stout recoil but the same frame with the .380 is a whole lot better.

Yes, and we are planning on doing more traveling as I slowly retire over the next few years. She has changed her outlook on having a gun with us since that happened. I don't want her scared but aware and prepared. With the class she get some instruction other than me.

Not all counties do that Dave. We have two (including mine) that refuse to list the permits in the system. The Sheriffs believe it automatically gives the officers in anti-gun counties an attitude around here. They do warn that we could get some additional challenges if pulled over and we disclose we are carrying (which we are required to do), because the system will not show it when they run the plate.

Got Dory a S&W 380 Bodygaurd, but she can't pull the slide. I inherited it and love it as a carry. Dory may be unique but she just cannot grip tight enough to pull a slide, so she is a revolver profile. However, if chambered she can really mess up some paper with a 45, which we carry in the Bear country.

The classes are excellent, as they remove the romance and replace it with the hard facts that if you use it your life will change forever, but at least you might retain your life. Interesting to learn just how limited you are.

Brad in the bear country (or snake) I carry the 4" Judge. Fun to shoot and delivers a hell of a bang. VERY intimidating and if using 410 cheap to shoot. The 410 also comes in home defender or when I hike I put in 7shot for the snakes and 45 long colt hollow point for the bigger critters.

so many guns to choose from

I'd like to try that with the 410s, it would be like my snake loads on steroids

When hunting in grizzly country I carry a 338/378》Weatherby and a 12 gauge 18" barrel Remington defender loaded with alternating slugs and double 00 buck. Those little pistols are only good to put in your mouth and pull the trigger when the bear charges. The only thing they will do is piss them off
