Can you remove/modify basement shelving?

I have an RL/RE/FB type model and I want to remove 3ft from street side shelving and reinstall. The shelves are metal with heavy beam in the front, facing the basement with carpet-type covering.

I want to use the wall space I recover to install a panel with Solar components such as MPPT charger, cabling, circuit breakers, shut-off, etc. This area is directly in front of my battery compartment. I have no other adjacent space to the batteries since I have the Onan generator.

I'm concerned that the shelves might structurally tie the street & curb sides of the trailer together and add stiffness to the sidewalls - in which case modifying them have unintended consequences.

Anyone removed or modified their basement shelving?

I would hope there's more to the structural integrity than a couple shelves. I don't think the later models have the shelves.

Could you just remove the wooden part of the shelves and work around the metal framework? This would be simple and lend some protection to the parts you want to install.
