Counter tops

Does anyone know exactly what material was used for the 2013 MY counter tops?

Mine is the real quartz, but they only did that for a very short run in late '12 & early '13 models, build date on mine is Nov. 2012. Yep, it's heavy, but we are very pleased with it, it's pretty much bullet proof.
After that they called it Corian, but who knows what the exact brand may be. Corian usually has their little medallion embedded in the counter somewhere.

Ours was built in Feb 2013 and has the real quartz. Wasn't initially thrilled with it because of the weight, but after we swapped trucks for our dually, was really glad we had them. Still am, they are wonderful.

Agree - consider ourselves happy to have the Quartz. Love the ability to not worry about a hot pan or plate and after 5 years they still look great. I think the other countertops were LG but not positive.

Can you place hot pots and pans on top of quartz?
I may have to make a confession to the Mrs.

Still Having Trouble

I've been off this forum for quite awhile. After all the troubles we've had, we had our new RW at our dealer a couple of times. Once to fix some problems and to identify and get approval for other items. This took months. Finally all remaining problems were approved. Then we had to wait for the parts to come in. That took weeks. Sept 18 we hauleded our RW to the dealer. We picked it up Sept 25. All repairs were made. We had fingers crossed that we could finally enjoy our beautiful new RW. We took off for our 3rd outing with fingers crossed that we wouldn't have any major trouble. This is a long trip, from N. Calif to OKC. Everything seemed to go well and we were beginning to think all was well. Then yesterday at the RV park where we'd stopped for the night a women came to our door to let us know water was pouring out of our trailer. My husband found that when we hooked up to city water it was backfilling our fresh water holding tank. Has anyone had that problem? Also our couch in living room has started moving when we travel. It gets in the way of the slide when we bring them out. Don't know if it's supposed to be fastened down. Don't remember that happening before. Though we've not gotten to use our RW much it's made the 7 hour round trip to our dealer many times. Only started to be a problem on this trip.

Sorry I messed up and posted about our ongoing problems on this thread. We have corian counters in the new RW we bought in April this year. Even the sink is corian. So far I like it but don't think you can put hot pans on it.

As far as I know you can put hot pots on any granite and quartz tops and have no worries. I have done it for years and no problems yet.

Same as Steve.

On the subject of water filling the tank, the one way valve in the pump probably has some debris in it. Try turning off the city water and running water from the pump. D this three or four times. If it still fills tank, reach in behind the basement wall and close the winterizing valve. This will bypass the tank. You won't be able to pump tank water till you fix pump but it won't fill tank.

This was the acrylic counter we had - made by LG solid surface as stated. It had the "brick" look backsplash at the oven.

I would not put anything hot on it.

This is what the quartz looked like - the sink and stove covers were like tombstones to move. This guy obviously came up with an alternative cover for the stove.

The quartz is stone, so you can set hot things on it.

Well, they must have provided both materials in early 2013. Regardless, I'm in big trouble.

Tom ~ the quartz was an option in 13 and I think maybe part of 14. They dropped it because of weight but also because if not mounted correctly and bedded with a BUNCH of silicone to cushion it, the Island counter breaks. Having said that, I love it. Take pot right from stove and sit it on counter if you need to.

If you had the quartz, you could ask for a set of cutting boards that were made to fit the sinks. We have them and the sink covers are sitting in a storage shed. The cutting boards look like they're made out of Starboard. Very nice and routed to fit into the sinks and stay put.

Thanks, Vaughn. Given everyone's responses, I'm quite sure we have the synthetic material. There's definitely a faint sign of some yahoo who placed a hot pot on the counter top, if only a few seconds.

Brad...thanks for the pics.

Tom ~ the Quartz are VERY heavy. If you have the stove covers, each half probably weighs 30 lbs or so. Also - they look like stone that's been formed.

Thanks for the info. My husband did what you suggested and so far we're ok hooked up to city water. He thinks he can turn the bypass back off so that we can use the water pump to pump water from the fresh water tank when we're back on th road. I hope he's right. One of the many issues that we've had was with the water pump. It seemed to be working fine on this trip. We only had a problem when we hooked up to city water.

Good news is, the acrylic is sandable and polishable, so perhaps you can repair the mark.

Good to know as that's something I can manage. Need to Google the procedure or contact the manufacturer.
