Recently someone posted that they pulled their Group 24 12V and replaced with Group 31s. Since they are much larger than the Group 24s, are the battery boxes large enough to accommodate them?

I have a '12 RL and was wondering about changing them to the 31 Deep Cycle or possibly going to the 6Vs Golf Carts if they do fit. Trojan makes the best I think.

I just moved over my two Lifeline 6v AGM batteries and had the dealer install a Noco commercial dual 6v battery box. It fit very nicely!

Group 31s will not fit in the factory battery box. I have larger, 6V batteries and I simply leave the top off the box and position the hoses over the batteries. My plan is to install another ventilation screen if I see any signs of corrosion on the buss or wires.Edited by: spindrift

29s fit great. But that is the bare minimum I believe. I kicked a pedestal breaker the other day and my batteries were low enough after just 6 hours that I couldn't get one of the awnings to retract.

I had 24s in my last RV and they must have been the cheapest the dealer could find the two of them had about 130 amp hours total pulled into a Flying J one night in early November and woke up four hours later freezing the batteries were dead I don't know why they try to get buy with the 24sEdited by: Beechguyjim

Just an FYI.
I just talked with RW yesterday as I have had battery problems and just got this unit. They ship a cheap plain black group 24 with the unit. It is only for transportation as most of the transport companies don't require the drivers to have their 7 way plug to have power all the time. RW said that is why they send a chap battery and the dealer is supposed to change it out. Lazy days didn't change it out and this plain black battery is not a deep cycle. I will be buying 2 batteries to resolve my issues.
Our unit is a 36fl and is now 1 month old. The rv industry is very different from the auto industry. You wouldn't think buying something new you would have to spent more money on something that should be in it anyways.

I rarely use my batteries if at all. As soon as I get to a campground I plug up to shore power. The rest of the time it is either plugged to the truck while traveling or a 120V receptacle at home. I level and operate the slides while plugged into one of these sources.

Used to order brand fire trucks and ambulances, and the gas powered units would show up with a huge battery box that held two coach batteries and one chassis battery, but there would only be one 24 series battery in there. Just enough to get it started. It's not limited to RVs.
