FL Owners, A little more storage

Not the most exciting picture to show and you will only enjoy if you are an FL owner. As we know there is a shortage of basement storage.
If you run in cold months and need to have your heat running for pipe freezing reasons you would need to build a box. In my case we do not run in cold months so under your central vac wall in the basement I came up with about 9"x40"x50" and works great for rolled lawn chairs and shade screens and still more room. I also wanted a ladder tall enough to reach my awning top in case of issues so you can see I found a spot for a 7' ladder. I'm not ready to hook up my water filter every time I stop on the outside so I left mine in place but as you know it's a matter of time before that bracket breaks. It's solid and secure now.
Nothing exciting but thought I would mention.

Steve

Thanks Steve! We can always use more storage space. We full-time, so I'll have to enclose some of the open spaces, although we do our best to avoid cold weather. This has definitely got me thinking about how to tap into some of the unused basement areas.

Great job Steve, got to be creative on storage with these FL's.
One of the first Mods I did was to remove that water filter from the rear or the storage compartment !!!!!

Steve,
I plan on moving that back wall back about 6" and re-working some of the water lines. I was thinking of making that back wall on a slider track so you don't have to unscrew anything to get at it. On the central vac side that is a great idea! Like we talked at the rally..still trying to figure out if the metal cage for the generator can be taken out to gain more room. I haven't been able to talk to Randy at the service center yet.

I also took the complete generator box out this weekend and installed shelving on the door side. Lots of extra storage. I'll take a picture tomorrow. After thinking about the generator we decided most likely we will not install one so out it came.
Your able to gain at least 6" on the back wall without cutting any pipes. You can move the main wood support that RW has the pipes fixed too with only a few screws and of course the water filter. Move a few blocks for the rear wall and your done. If you go any farther they have a 5" hole in the floor for the water tank sensor. you may need to cover over.

sorry to hear that RW didn't move that in the 2014 FL! We have a 2013 FL that my hubby had the filter moved from the rear of the storage trunk. That was really a very poor design on RW's part.

Steve
We left our Generator box at Lazy Days dumpster, took it out when moving into our Redwood from our previous 5er.
In our 4 years of fulltiming, only had one time where it would have been nice to have a generator, for us we do not need the expense, weight and need the storage space.

I removed all the screws from basement wall & stapled industrial Velcro to all edges, now a good hard pull & the walls are out of the way.

Steve - I'm thinking you may need to start a side business in modifying RV's.

Did you get pictures of the front with the Generator box gone? I'm curious what it looks like behind there. There is a whole man cave above my generator box, plus there is about 18" above the generator within the box, that all seems like useable space.

Dory says "useable space? - you're already at 4,300 lbs pin weight and they don't make a triply truck!"

Well.... what got me to remove it was that I put an extra sewer hose and water hose on the top. Trip to the rally and is disappeared on the non accessible side so out it came for good.
Door side of box there is about 8" and you already know what is on the top side.

Brad,

At the 13 rally Tom and I had discussed a few changes that had to be done on the Redwoods. This was one of them. Here was the list.

#1 put a storage area above the generator for nonflammable items
#2 put a turn signal midship of the trailer
#3 put batteries in the floor of the basement like what Pertersen RV did
#4 offer different packages that represented how the RV was going to be used
#5 offer the Moyride IS
#6 storage trunk in the back
#7 fresh water hose reel

Dave,

Too bad they only did the rear storage and maybe the different use packages (kind of - just not organized). All were good ideas.

I'll eventually put my own midturn lights on. Did them on my last rig and they were real traffic movers. I just replaced one of my marker lights with one of these giant trucker marker/midturn lights.

Nice addition Steve looks like it added a lot more storage for you. Better get the mitre saw, harley parts and other tools in there before the shoes start showing up
