Isn't that the normal drain hose for draining the fresh water and should be closed except for when draining?

Our tank started siphoning when they were filling it at Lazydays. They told us that if it were to be shut off, the tank would explode. When the water comes in, the air in the tank needs to escape or there'll be a problem. In order for the tank to fill, there has to be a way for the air inside to escape. If the tube is underwater, the tank will siphon because there's no place for the air to go

Better the fresh water exploding instead of the black!

Every other camper uses the vent next to the fill, just like the one Redwood installed. So why does Redwood need the second vent. Maybe the one near the fill isn't even hooked up?

Look through the little door and you'll see the vent tube from the filler area going into the top of the tank

Nope...that's why I'm not worried about putting a shut off on the one line. If I'm filling the tank with a 5/8 garden hose and there's a vent the same size if not a little bigger, there shouldn't be a problem. The air coming out should equal the water going in, that's my opinion but I'm not an engineer.

Dave - I'm also not an engineer, but thinking back to my days on the tanker. Our tank vents were never as big as the loadinglines, so if the vents are equal or almost equal to the fill line you shouldn't have any problems.

My experience with large fuel tanks is that the vent is always larger than the fill, by a significant mount. I once saw a rail ker that literally imploded when the vent system did not work properly. The rail car looked like a soda can that had been crushed. Vacuum can be a really dangerous force of nature.

I wanted to be an engineer.

That is what I thought. But to be honest, the person who told me that was @ CROSSROADS Service center.
