I want to install our 5.5 Onan LP in the front cabinet. The cut outs don't seem to open up enough to allow for the Onan, and it doesn't look like that thin cabinet bottom is enough to support this 290 lb monster. Is there something missing from this generator prep, like angle iron? I notice other brands having a C-channel support system that the generator sets on, instead of directly to the bottom of the cabinet.

My 5.5 Onan just sits on the floor of the cabinet. I think the prep package is a fire cabinet, and the wiring to the closet for the switch and hour meter.

Dave...the 36FL which we intend to purchase has the generator prep package. When I examined the cabinet yesterday, all I saw was a harness which I assume is DC wiring for a remote panel. I didn't ask the salesman. I didn't see any AC cable. The galvanized (?) paneling was in place as well.

A word to the wise... if you have any inclination to purchase Gen Prep and later, put in your own Onan - think twice about that.
Remember, if you purchase from Redwood, you don't have to pay for shipping, lift & install your own 278lb generator, LP plumbing, fabricate an exhaust system or A/C wiring. You can order 40lb bottles and it will work start on the first shot.
Lastly, you are not paying MSRP for the option, because it is reduced by the discount that you negotiate on the unit. You most likely will not get any discount on all the components you have to hunt down and ship in. Even if you were to eek out a few dollars on the equipment, you have to do all the work yourself on something you haven't done before. You know how much time that type of thing takes. It's just not worth it. Factory install was one of my best decisions in the order process!
Same exact scenario if you ever plan to install your own washer/dryer... Remember you will have to locate & drill your own dryer vent hole. Mine is in the middle of paint stripes on the body paint. Factory install was my 2nd best decision.

The problem I have is I have the genny and W/D already, and I don't want to sell at wholesale and buy at retail. Even discounted the numbers are pretty staggering.
The dryer vent sounds like a hassle just because of the paint. Otherwise I installed the vent on the one I have, scary but easy to do.
I do not like the lack of support in the cabinet for the Onan - I have never seen an prep that did not include a boxed out C channel frame that spans the frame frame crossmembers for mounting. The cut out is not correct for the Onan either, as it precludes the exhaust routing, fuel, and full ventilation. The remote wiring is there, but the rest is up behind the heat box. The transfer switch is up there, and the breaker box is near the batteries. Should all be there.

I'm going to use my super quite Honda EU 6500i on the hitch of the Redwood. All I'll need is a short cord to plug in the back of the Redwood. I bought it for hurricanes, but I just as well make the mist of it. Cheaper than propane and the little noise it makes will be in the back away from the bedroom.
