I'm not real happy today after reading a post by someone that said that their RL with most of the bells and wistles weighs over 14k empty. Now I'm not stupid but....the paper work says 12600. You add a generater, washer/dryer and all the other goodies I don't see tipping the scale that much.
What has me upset is that I almost went to a 8k axles but was told by Andy that it was too much of an over kill..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Now when you look at the big picture the RL can carry around 2300lbs based on what was posted earlier. I hope the hell that was a wrong post and the scale was broke. It's real easy for a weekender to put 2k in these trailers and a full timer can easly put 3k in one.
And they think "e" rated tire will be ok with this weight?
Anybody who hasn't gotten their trailer yet...PLEASE do yourself a favor and change to a 8k axle, G rated tires before it's too late! I might cool down tomorrow but right now I'm pissed

Dave, the info I have on the RL is 12,700 lb base weight. add the 40lb bottles, 2nd a/c, generator, dual pane windows, d/w, w/d, 12 cf. fridge, vac and 2nd awning for approx. 945 extra lbs. I could not find weights on the other option. but this still comes to 13,645 lbs shipping weight. add the difference of the other options weight and I can see were it would go over 14,000 lbs.

I bet by the time we get everything moved from our Montana into our RL (with the added generator) that we'll be 15K easy with a pin in the 3K region. Shipping weight on the Montana is 11K and loaded we're over 14K and don't have a genny. So if we can put 3K on the pin that leaves 12K for the axles, so we're still got 2K of reserve there, but I wouldn't want to do it on the Marathons.

We are full timers and with our Montana we only have 1200 pounds of payload that we can carry and we are not overweight. My wife and i can't see how you could add 3000# 's of personal stuff without taking up every available inch of space inside and outside with only a path to get from one end to the other end of the trailer.
When we move into our FL we plan on deleting even more weight by putting all of our DVDs on a hard drive and thinning out our books and magazines.

The trailer weight as listed on the web site or in their brochure is with standard options.
Our 2012 36RL has the following options......... 2nd a/c, generator, dual pane windows,12 cf. fridge, built in vac, fireplace, main awing, slide out toppers, Goodyear G614 tires/rims, Kodiak disk brakes, Trail-Air Tri-Glide pin boxand generator prep. The trailer wasweighed at the factoryat 13,416 lbs.

If my trailer weighs in at the weight that you have I'll be happy but someone earlier today said theirs weighed in at about 1000lbs heavier. That's what caused me to blow a gasket! In my opinion...any trailer that claims to be a "Full Timers" trailer should be able to carry 3000lbs while equipped with the options normally associated with full time use.
Escapees did a survey several years ago and it turned out that most full timers carried between 2500 and 3000lbs of personal gear in their rigs. I've always considered this information while shopping for a trailer and this did fit into the Redwood numbers when I first found them.

Just got the phone call. our 36RE will be at the dealership next week. shipping weight is 14,130 lbs. pin weight is 2,896 lbs. pin percentage is 20.3%. cargo carrying capacity is 2,896. total loaded would be 17,026 lbs.

No. I got talked out of them, like everyone else. you would think, them being in the business, that when someone loads up one of there units, like I did that they would come back and say. wait a minute. we recomend the 8k axels with the g614s because of the added weight. maybe they think it would be a deal breaker. thankfully I did up grade the tires and rims and ordered the disk brakes.Maybe they are in with the truck manufactures, for down the road truck sales.

I am really surprised they gave you a 2896#'s carrying capacity when I thought the gvwcc was 16000#'s. that puts you 1026#'s over the published max weight.someone posted that adding the G"s does not increase the gross carrying capacity, so I wonder what they did.

Does anyone have the actual shipping weights of any 34SKs? And what is the cost of the 8K Axle UG?

I think, this is how they come up with these weights. shipping weight of 14,130 subtract pin weight of 2,896 = 11,234 lbs on the axels. that leaves 2,766 lbs of more weight the axels will handle, for a max of 14,000 lbs. that leaves 130 lbs more for the pin weight. you end up with 14,000 lbs on the 5th wheel axels and 3,026 lbs on the truck.

but what about the added weight to the pin when you add your stuff to the trailer, it will put about 20% on the pin or more in your case if you add a lot of weight to the bedroom?

Guy (hoosierguy), that means our RL well come even a little heavier as we have all the options you have less the central vac,but we have the generator, the second awing, combo washer/dryer and the Trav'ler SK-3005 DirecTV Dish on the roof so we should be over 14K before we even move things. So I would say, yep we'll be over 15K easy, probably getting close to 16going down the highway, and no we do not have things sitting on the floor. Everything is put away and we still have several cupboards that are nearly empty. Pots, pans, dinnerware, silverware, cooking appliances, etc can add up in a hurry.

mhs4771, if you ordered washer/dryer, generator, dishwasher, disk brakes, G614s, etc, your RL will be just over 14K. Mine was 14,167, but GVRW was 16,500. That still leaves lots of capacity for theSK-3005, etc.
People are overestimating what they "need" tobring along and how much it weighs. Picture needing 3000lbs of "stuff" just to survive??? Best thing about 5th-wheeling is getting away from all that clutter at your house.
