Maxxair vent problem

The mbr vent opens but bounces several times before staying in position. Anyone else had this problem and what was the fix?

Thanks

The operator for the lid is stripping.
I forget the manufacturers name, from the roof open the lid & get that name & model number from your fan & contact them, in the past past they've shipped 2 new operators to me free of charge, pre Covid.
It's a simple 5 minute replacement but you'll have to do it from the roof if I recall.

The kitchen fan in our 2012 did that a few years back. Remove the round screen to find your model number on a sticker that is normally covered by the screen. Went to mfgr website and searched their parts. If I recall it was the drive gear and shaft that had worn out. Don’t remember cost but wasn’t too bad. Followed instructions for replacement. Wasn’t too difficult. Performed replacement up on the roof.

90% or the time its this part that has failed. The case cracks in half right at the hex drive. Open the lid go up on the roof and bring a #2 philops screw driver. Like other said it takes maybe 10 min to swap . I have done 3 of them so far. I keep one in stock so I can do it on the road if needed.

Mark, question? Was the replacement from E Trailer made better of the exact same thing that already exploded? Would like to see a replacement made of steel or aluminum vs that White Pot Metal.
I too have gotten free replacements from MaxxAir, but last time I tried they wanted some crazy price for their piece of junk operator mech.

Same as OEM junk white metal, they have not been upgraded. I have had to replace so many that the last two I have added a small stainless-steel screw epoxied to the top in a effort to help the body from cracking. The bathroom fan was the first on I replaced 3 years ago and just did it again last month. Two weeks after I replaced the opener gear it stopped closing the lid when it was turned off , at this point I have smoke coming out of my ears ..... I had to replace the control board to the tune of $100+ . The new control board seems to be the fix , it doesn't seam to pull the lid down as hard as the old board did (it turns off sooner once the lid is down). I really had a hard time spending more money on these fans but getting a replacement with low stock on most sites I looked at with no idea when I would get the new fan I just fixed this one for the last time. again, Welcome to Covid get in line and wait and be willing to PAY extra.

The screw I used was about 2" long 6-32 I cut the head off and glued it to the back bone on the top so it didnt hit any of the mounting points. They have all cracked at the hex round drive point.

I have sent them photos of exploded operators and have never received any response at all. Asked the Rep that was at one of the RW Rallies several years ago, his response that he had never heard of the problem.
I think they know there's a problem, but as long as MFRs continue buying and installing them they have no reason to fix the problem.

I figured you would get multiple responses!
I have 3 of these vents and I have lost track of how often I replaced that 'mechanical unit'. Some stripped, while most of them simply cracked and fell apart.
I also, in the beginning, got a hold of Maxxfan and sent me a few units at no charge, but that ended, and purchased 3 the last time around. I now have 2 spares.
Changing the unit is not a difficult task, you just need to be sure that the arms are placed in the right position, either up or down, based on how the 'mechanical unit' is wound.
It is clearly a shame how Maxxfan has let this issue go on

Talked to a Gentleman here at the Rally and he claims he purchased a replacement from E-Trailer that was made of Steel. When we get back to home base in a week I plan on calling them and ask. If they send the Pot Metal junk it will be returned ASAP.
