I was at the Dallas RV Show and ws told Redwood will be coming out with a new rv called Sierra. It's supposed to be along the lines of what a Carriage Carri-Lite is/was. Don't know when it's supposed to be out but it will cost more than a Redwood.

Now that they own the Carriage names, they can use a carriage name. Yes, Sierra is already in use.

Yes it looks like Rushmore is a brand name for CrossRoads, and a floor plan for Landmark. But they both as well as Redwood are owned by Thor Industries. So I guess they can do what ever they want...

Well, that's a good point. I didn't realize Thor owned Heartland

It seems like there are only a couple of major RV companies left these days Thor and Forest River, every time you turn around they are buying up another brand name.

That's true...the only 2 towable stand alone compaines I can think of is Nuwa andNew Horizon. New Horizon I'll probablybuy someday when I want to buy a LARGE truck after retirement just because they custom build what you ask for. Nuwa I tried to givebusiness to butI wasafriad they're holding on by the skin of their teeth. Also Ididn't think they were as innovative, building now what they built 10 years ago.
In the motorhome world you still have Tiffin which is what I was going to buy before I found Redwood. They're a family owned company known for their quality and standing behind their coaches. Foretravel is like that too but on the upper end of money, although you can buy one used in good price range.
I'd love to see some smaller towable companies start up because start-up campanies usually bring innovations that we all enjoy.

There is aa lot of other companies like excel, americana granted both of these companies are at each end of scale I almost bought an excel but found the redwood to be a better buy.

That's very true and they're nice units. The reason I didn't look real close at Peterson (I did in 2006 at an RV show I talked with the owner) is because again I didn't want to buy a dually. Last May when I bought my truck I drove a dually but in my business I park at doctor's offices and hospitals and the dually was just too hard to park in those parking lots. Peterson didn't make a floor plan I liked that could be pulled by a single rear wheel 1ton. I actaully thought about buying a "baby 8" Frieghtlinerbut again the parking was a factor.

With todays high tech diesels and braking systems it is almost not worth buying a baby 8, the tow ratings are over kill with a baby 8 for most of todays RV's unless you are carrying a car or a pair of bikes and pulling some huge triple axle 20000# plusrated 5th wheel.

As far as weight and torque your right but there are other factors. The baby 8 is designed to be a million mile truck, and although I like my Ford, I don't see the body holding together for a million miles. Also when it comes to handling the weight not just moving it, the baby 8 will win again. And lastly when working on a baby 8, you tip the hood and the motor is right there easy to work on, while with my Ford you couldn't fit a "hump back mouse" into the engine compartment let alone work on it.
I drove Semi's for over 20 years before I started my business back in the late 90's. The torque of the smaller trucks is nice and they're easier to park but I think the stability, driver comfort and long life of the larger trucks win when it comes to long term use.
