Talked to my tech last month about the tension on our slide covers. He checked and said they were as tight as they should be. Tighter would only put undue stress on the rail ends. Once they give up the ghost you are in for a replacement...soooo they are good enough for me. I can deal with the pooling. It goes away.

To me..... slide toppers are like having a 21 year old wife.....sure look good but not worth the headache or expense .

One time it was raining and I did not get up on the roof to sweep off the slides, the next stop I was greeted by Acorns rolling around inside the coach, it took me a week to get all the acorns out.
When we picked up the coach from the dealer and made our maiden trip home, we found leaves everywhere inside from the top of the slides, I did not sweep the slides off before we left the dealer.
As far as headaches having them, I only washed and cleaned them twice a year when I cleaned the roof, other than that no other maintenance to them.

The suggestion of raising the front to dump the toppers wouldn't work on ours. (We have tried it). You have to imagine a hammock full of water to describe what our toppers look like after a lot of rain. They sag in the middle. When dry they look tight and can be effective as a sun shield, but rain and they droop in the center. I think a PVC construction to slip under the topper is the only fix for ours.

I just retract the rear jacks and extend the front jacks nearly to the max and the toppers drain very well. Any water left after I re-level dries rather quickly if the sun is shining. Just don't do this procedure if your wife is inside the Redwood or you may get an ear full or worse. Don't ask me how I know!!

Free shipping, all though I had to ship them to business address for free shipping on the two larger awnings.
The three smaller slide awnings would ship UPS but the two larger ones are too long for ups so they had to be shipped freight.
Awnings were shipped within 48 business hours of order.
At the time I ordered they were also running a 10% discount for online orders.
They do not have a store front in Florida so no sales tax.

First of all, welcome to the Redwood Forum and congratulation's on your new RW 38FL.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we are enjoying ours
The slide toppers I bought are Carefree Slide Awnings from http://www.shadepro.net/
They were running a 10% off promotion for online orders and free shipping, total cost for all 5 was about $1,350.
(Due to the size of the larger units I had to ship to a business address to get the free shipping.)

Those are Carefree of Colorado, if that is what you were asking.

Just purchased a new RW36FG with slide toppers. Should be manufactured in December.
Our old SOB had three slide toppers. We only had pooling on the long slider. One of the members of the Heartland forum had installed a roller in the middle of his slider. The purpose is to keep roller bar from slagging (bending). When the rain pools, it bends the roller bar towards the coach, which helps the water pool. The roller would keep the water from pooling initially due to from the bending topper (awning).
I didn't get a chance to install this on my rig, but I did confirm that the middle of topper bar was closer to the slider than the ends were.
I will probably install one of these on our new rig.

Boca_Shuffles,
Congratulations and welcome to the Redwood family. I've not heard of a 36FG, is this a typo of is there a new model I'm not aware of?
