I guess if we keep modifying our Redwood (new Suspension, new / better toilet that does not leak on the floor, better A/C performance due to a number of mods, new lifetime roof, plus many more mods) we will wind up with a pretty good fulltime 5th Wheel

I do not know if it is paintable, I just wanted to make sure it did not leak and I do not have to caulk anything on the roof.

Robert, what did they end doing for you about the hitch? Which one did they ship to you? Did they offer any inspection tips for the rest of us? That's a very serious situation & would be comforting to know if that was something that could happen to all of us & what to look for.

Still working on the Pin Box issue, it looks like they will not get a Pin Box replacement here before we leave Texas. (Dealing with Lippert is Slooooooow)
I believe the welding I had done to ours will hold for our travel to Tennessee and then travel to Florida.

That's what I keep saying, Make it your own. RW has good enough bones to start with, and in the end you won't be able to buy a better RV. How many people ever buy a home that is 100% perfect to their needs? RV, probably not much different.

Received our new Trail Air Pin Box replacement last week and got it installed last weekend.
Did not get the new Flex Air, got the same obsolete Trail Air Pin Box like we originally had.
Guess I will take our old Trail Air Pin Box apart and save the welded / repaired lower Jaw incase we have another failure in the future and also save the Shock Absorber and Air Bag.

Did someone walk it to you? It could've gotten there quicker on horseback!! What if you hadn't southern engineered the broken one? Did they ever offer any explanation on the cause of the original or what the rest of us should inspect for on them??

I'm starting to get more and more upset that Lippert isn't offering those of us with the TrailAir an upgrade to the Flex Air. It's becoming very obvious that the design ahs an inherent problem and one would think they would look for a way to improve BEFORE one of us loses a trailer and starts litigation ...............

I agree Vaughn, every time I hear mine bump/bang I wonder if it just fell apart!
It's not that I'm worried about truck/trailer damage (I have insurance for them & they can be replaced) as much as some one getting hurt in the process which would then come back to me, yes I have insurance for that also, but a life can't be replaced.

Is the only difference between the 2 the fact that the flex air only has 1 pivoting shaft, while the Trail air has the 3 shafts ??

The FlexAir only has the one shaft and has a pivoting head with a rubber insert like a MORyde pinbox. Should be the best of both worlds.

So you guys think the $612 add to my newly ordered 2016 Redwood for the "Trail-Air Tri-Glide Pin Box" is not a good add?

What would the standard one have been?

I think if it was me ~ I'd have the dealer add the FlexAir when it gets in. The price for a FlexAir is around $1150 or so but I'm thinking you could negotiate

Standard is a RotoFlex, no air bag

If you really want the one, I think you could push it with the rep - especially if LCI no longer sells the tri-glide. It's kind of weird paying a premium for an outdated piece of equipment.

Keep in mind, although others have had trouble, I love our tri-glide. No bangs, just smooth ride.

The flexair isn't quite like the mor-ryde. The More ride is actually a rubber shear spring between two independent plates that move laterally to buffer the shock. The Flexair has a definite pivot point, even thought it is buffered with rubber. Here is a video

When I looked at the cut away model of the MorRyde pin box at the MorRyde booth at the rv show it did not look much more than the rotoflex I had. The TrailAir and improved flex air looked much better and gave more options to smooth the ride

The flex air is nothing more than a rotoflex added to the bottom of a standard trailer pin box. No rocket science there. They are identical.

Lippert needs more competition. They're in so tight with the RV manufactures that it's tough for an outsider to come in and compete with them. Good business model on their part but bad for the end consumer that get railroaded into using their s$it.

Did not get any response / notice from Redwood as to why we were shipped the old style / no longer available Tri Glide.
I think this was not a Redwood decision, it was a Lippert decision since they are the supplier that is replacing their defective product.
I asked Redwood for a Flex Air Replacement, but it is not their choice.
The Tri Glide has been around for years and provided many with lots of miles of trouble free service, maybe I just got a defective unit that failed so quickly.
I will save my welded parts and such incase I have a failure on the road again.

But trailair has always been a good product. Just because LCI bought them out doesn't mean they started producing junk. There are a lot of good products that LCI gobbled up that are still good products - JT Strongarm, Trailair, etc. The unfortunate part is now they fall into the LCI customer service realm.
