Whenever sometechnician tells mesomething contrary to accepted knowledge, I always try to verify. Redwood has 1,000 units built, and I'll bet 75% have the filter installed (after you end up putting the cartridge in yourself - ha ha). How is water sitting in thefilter any different than water sitting in the pipes of the RV, the water tank or the kitchen faucet?

Personally, even though I have the factory water filter for sediment, etc, I use bottled water for drinking and ice cubes - don't want any of those "tank water" ice cubes!

Our 2013 came with water filter and the wrench, but the filter is behind wall and accesable only through small door, could only place one hand at a time!, anyone else?

Same problem I believe the designer is a Keebler elf. Because I am 6'4" and around 250. I have been in there and my thoughts have wondered towards cutting a bigger door for real people.

If you have a problem behind there, the wall is removable with six screws. Personally, if I have a problem, I'd rather I remove/install than the dealer techs. That's just me though. :-)

I also had the same problem. That amazing install on the water filter with one screw didn't last long, I pulled all the panels to do a few repairs (ducting, vacume, wiring & water filter) & that elf left me a gift - a nice new chanel lock pliers with locking slide! Pull the panels, maybe you will also have a Elf gift.

Interesting string of stories/comments.

My wife and I picked up our new 36FB the first week of November. The dealer, at my request, installed the water filter. I do have the wrench though.

I asked the dealer about how often the filter needed to be changed and he said for full timers (like us) once a year is probably appropriate. He also commented that if we noticed the water pressure dipping noticebly the filter needing replacement might be the cause. (dirt clogging, etc.)

Another interesting coment from the dealer pertained to the type/model filter. I asked which filter I needed to buy for replacement. My currently installed filter is turned in such a way I can't see the specifics without removing or at least loosening the current filter. Tech at the dealer said he had no way of knowing. Said RV Manufacturers typically buyfilters in lots based on lowest price. Once that lot is gone, they buy again and it may be a totally different supplier and different make/model. Wow!

So many different answers from different techs and dealers. Amazing.

My filter is also behind the wall and did not come with any documentation. I am starting to think about installing some quick disconnect fasteners to access the infrastructure in the garage! Sounds like I will be going in there many times.

Since I've done a lot of remodeling in my brick and mortar home, I've gotten pretty good with the "Pex" pipe. I think I'm going to do some re-routing of the filter and put it in a place easily accessible.

Agree Dave, My son is a plumber and has all the tools for pex's thought I would have him reinstall in a better location as well.

Has anyone confirmed that this filter fits the housing in their Redwood? It's time for a replacement.

Grandpa, my last filters I bought at Walmart. They are just the standard sized house filters that you can buy 2 in a pack.
