We now have the same Pin Box/Hitch assembly as Vaughan, just on a Chevy and a 39MB.

Since we dropped another shade on the way home from SC yesterday , and I had a few extra mounts...
I replaced the mounts for that shade , and added black zip ties also.. Once that was done , I used zip ties on ALL other shade mounts . . The other mounts seemed to be in good order , so I figured the zip ties will work just fine..
Also I changed the oil in the Onan... Just have to wait and change the filter then add oil.... Can't get the original filter removed...

I had to buy the special Onan filter wrench from Amazon. Even with that it barely came off!

Got it off..
But here is my question.... The filler neck showed oil as full before I changed the oil. I drained it into a gallon milk jug , removed the filter and poured that oil into the same jug. There is no way it was 2 quarts of oil like stated in manual, possibly a quart and a half?
I filled the new filter with oil, rubbed oil around the seal and installed it, then filled the genny with oil.. it only took about 1-1/2 quarts and is showing full... Does this sound right >??

Yes that is about right I know the filter looks like it only holds a bout 1/2 cup bot it really holds more. Remember the filter is full of about 25-30 pleated media in side once the unit has been started and all of the air has been purged you may find that your oil level has changed slightly.

Think about it this way if the diameter of the oil sump is 10". Think about how much oil you would have to add the raise the oil level 1/4 inch on a dipstick. In another prospective if an air cooled engine was to loose a 1/4 inch down on the same dipstick think about how much less oil would not be able to cool the engine. The amount of oil that is able to contact the engine block to transfer its heat to the metal that has cold air blowing across it and the cool metal transferring its cool temperatures to the oil to keep the moving parts cool. Now look at the dipstick and think about,"we'll it is only down a little but not to the add oil mark yet so it's fine".

So today I took out the shoe boxes and filled the void with R30 insulation. All that was in there was foil bubble wrap type insulation and fiberglass insulation that was maybe 1-1/2 thick that was falling down. Now not only is this area considerably cooler by I'll bet 20* it is a lot more sound proof too. The job took roughly an hour and cost about $25.00. I got one roll of R30 with out any backing kraft. Cut into 65" strips pull the 4 screws on the shoe boxes and fill the void. I can't even to start to explain the difference this made.

Did you only place the insulation in the area behind the shoe boxes , or were you able to get to other area's from the opening?.. I am thinking that the shoe boxes are maybe 12" wide , that is not a lot of room... ?

I was able to get from the top of the cap to the bottom of the cap. I was also to reach all the way to where the cap join the wall. The only place I was not able to place insulation was where the 36"ish shelves are. That area looked pretty good for the most part. I really don't think that could be better insulated unless you wanted to remove the whole closet.

It is a super easy job. These units have so many places they lose cool and warm air so any little thing helps. The air conditioners are worked to death just trying to keep up. During the time the sun shines on the unit I use my hands to find hot spots on the ceiling and walls and try to determine how to combat the heat transfer some areas are impossible to access and so, it is what it is. Others I fix. I figure soon my RW will be built like it should have been for the money we paid. I just really want to thank Crossroads for all their wonderful QC efforts, and awesome accountability, toward the buyer of their products. Again thank you.

Tom, thanks for the inspiration to take care of the "hot hole". Our closet has been a source of tremendous heat in the bathroom, since our bathroom is so large the closet super heated it everyday with these 90+ days. As soon as I read your post I headed to get the insulation, it took about as long to go get the insulation as it did to do the entire job. The only thing I did different was I took ALL the existing insulation and pushed it in behind the 36" shelves, when I got through that area was packed with insulation. The results are immediate, a huge difference, thanks again.
