Satellite Upgrade

I just thought I would share something simple, I did to my rig. I have a Winegard Carryout portable/auto satellite antenna. I had the dealer install a 12v power outlet in the convenience center to plug in my Carryout antenna. But sometimes its slow to find the satellites and download the programming. On another forum I read about someone that used a 13.8v power supply instead. I happened to have on in the basement. I added a power outlet, plugged in Winegard and it took about 10 min to setup instead of 45 min. Better than buying a new antenna!

I don't think I would like having it as a permanent fixture in the truck.
naw - it's temporary. I got the arm that sticks to the windshield. This is my wireless one, but my wired is the exact same monitor without the antenna. I just store it in the console when I'm not towing.

What did I do????? NOTHING this time!! I give up.

With some help in the right direction from Christian a few weeks back and putting me in touch with the right people at RW, I am making an 840 mile journey next week ( 840 each way x4) and returning it to the factory for repairs.

They have a list of many smalls and a few major that I could fix but now choose not to.
I didn't create it so why should I fix it!
2 new fender skirts due to cracking since someone over tightened all the screws.
2 complete new entry doors which I hope work this time.
Make the HVAC work correctly.

So far RW has been perfect to deal with on most issues and I hope I will have a good report after I pick it up.

Never thought we would have to go through this when we purchased it but we have no dealer close by that I would trust with the paint or doors.
We also thought by spending this much money we would not quite have this many issues. I guessed wrong again!

We still love the RW but I have to say we never put this many miles on a RV in one year. I think after this trip I have towed it about 7,175 since June.

Steve

Wrapped the waterline with heat tape to prevent freezing. Installed a towel hook in the shower. For how much money I spent on the RW, I can't believe I had to put a towel hook in the shower.

Ordered roof ventilation vent cap. Forecast of 3+ inches of rain for our location in NW Texas...placed a glass bowl over vent until cap arrives. Glad I did a roof inspection today!

Is it anot attic vent or tank vent? Water won't hurt a tank vent and using a bowl could cause some odors to go inside. For a attic vent, the bowl is fine.

Attic vent; however, did have to replace tank vent caps also. Was able to purchase them at CW, but they didn't have the attic vent covers...ordered them through Tiara (I'm so happy about being able to order parts for our RW...got nothing but runaround from dealer).

I think Redwood is in a tough spot. The dealerships want all the parts sent to them so they can make money but is reading these posts about Tiara ordering parts shows how important it is to the owners.

Based on outragious wait times to get service work completed at dearships, seems they are staying plenty busy. Seems they try to drive people AWAY from instead of TO the dealerships...just from my experiences.

I think redwood is in a great spot using tiara. Most of us will just pay for the minor parts that warrenty should cover and fix it ourselves instead of the Hassel with the dealerships

From the Fourm, I see some folks have had good luck at their dealerships. I guess the RV industry is about like the auto industry...some good, some bad dealerships.

I couldn't agree more ! My time is worth something , and IF and WHEN getting warranty work done equals $$ , Ill do it myself and save that $$ and time dragging the trailer to the dealer.

My dealer is 1HR and 15 minutes away , across the $7.00 bridge each way..

Brad,
What resolution did you use for the photo of Dory on the dash? I tried a bunch of different ones and only wound up with a tiny image!

I wonder what Dory thinks of being on your screen? I think it may make Brad jealous!

Usually if you use a 72dpi image but make sure it's of a sufficient size, you'll be ok in a low rez application.

Ah, I lost the two tank vents before I even got it home from Texas. I have no idea what they even looked like. I installed the CW ones that have the spring metal expander thingies that go down in the vent to hold them on.

Ken, I had to think where I have it, but found it on the USB plugged into the truck.

It's 11.1111 inches by 5.33333 inches, or 800 by 384 pixels, and like Dave says 72 dpi.

Attached is my alternate one I use when I don't like Dory anymore or when I'm in the doghouse. You can use it to compare size. That is Creed CO by the way in the fall.
