Camping near Burlington Vermont

We have a close friend that is taking their son back to the University of Vermont this August and we all decided to make a trip out of it,..

The question I have is has anyone stayed in the state park right in or near Burlington ?It is called North Beach Campground...

After reading most of the reviews , it does not seam like a RW would fit too well in there??

Now we did find a place called Apple Island Resort up in South Hero VT that looks nice , anybody stay there ?

I am not looking to be shoehorned into a place for no reason . . .

Joe

I've stayed in a VT S.P. near Killington and it was all I could do to get in and out of the site. I don't want to generalize but my understanding of their S.P. system is that it is fairly old and originally designed for much smaller rigs. I looked at Apple Island a few years ago and it did seem very nice. Our daughter is finishing up her four years in Middlebury. I know it's probably too far south for you but there are a couple of nice places that we have stayed at around Lake Dunmore.

It has been awhile for me camping in Vermont. But a friend goes to Lone Pine that is on Mallette's Bay just north of Burlington. Open, grassy and full hookups. Down town Burlington is great. shops and restaurants all over. Most Gov. parks are smaller sites and without full hookup. If you travel into the the area of South Hero "the Lake Champlain islands" the roads are older and kind on narrow. Also if you miss an exit not too many places to turn around. But just so you are aware. The province of Quebec has what it calls the "construction shut down". this year it will be the 2 weeks July 23 to Aug 7. All construction shuts down and most industries follow. So there is a mass exit out of the province then. Those 2 weeks you need to reserve as soon as they open around May 15 - April 1. or you will not find a spot anywhere. It also makes the week before and the week after tough also. P.S. the prices for anything in the travel industry in that area are at their peak then. $$$$$. Need more info on the area let me know spent close to 30 years boating or camping in the area.

My nephew lives in Burlington. We've been trying to get up to see him. During the summer he told me about a campground that he went to and said I would have no problem getting into with my RW. I'll give him a call later and see what campground he was talking about.
