Colorado

So I see a few of you have lots of experience in CO. We are trying to get our act together for May and looking for input.

We will make the loop from Vegas up to North Rim in UT and enter in SW CO. Think 5-6 weeks between Dolores, Durango, Pagosa and Salida/Canon City. I realize not a lot of distance between these areas, so maybe we center Dolores/Durango/Pagosa in one or two parks and then up to Salida/Canon City. So far what seems to look good to us are:
  • Dolores River
  • Alpen Rose
  • Durango Riverside
  • Mountainside
  • Sportsmans
  • Bighorn
  • Chalk Creek
Any ideas will be welcomed.

After that we will loop south through Santa Fe and make stops at Railside and explore the south canyon before heading back to Vegas. OR if house is sold by then (fingers crossed) just spend more time in northern NM/CO and then head east for the rally?

Almost right inbetween Durango and Pagosa Springs and south a bit is Navajo Reservoir Colorado State Park - nice full hookup area if you like lakes:

We also really liked MountainViewsRV park by Creede (east side of Wolf Creek Pass). It's a private park but gave us homebase access to the sites around Creede as well as Lake City which is a kick in the pants mountain town!

They both look like terrible places to camp.

Good stuff Brad..Thanks

Mountain Views definitely looks like a winner. I hadn't really looked in that area.

Re Navajo...from some of the other photos I saw on line it looks like you stayed at Rosa Campground?

Ditto on Navajo !! Get a site on the bluff overlooking the lake.
Chalk Creek in Nathrop is ok.
Nice place here in Salida is 4 Seasons.

Yeah I jumped on Navajo right away.

4 seasons looks nice, but don't like that they tack on the extra $10/day "big rig fee", WTH!
