Question Wireless Backup Camera

Is anyone using the wireless backup camera on their Redwood? I noticed that one of their competitors is offering it as an option.

What wireless backup camera ? they offer one from the mfg?

I'm weighing if I want new Rancho 9000xl shocks for $324 + install and $100 rebate or the Voyager digital wireless camera with an extra camera for when the tailgate is down

heck I may get both !!!

Montana offered the Voyager way back in 2008, and I never really heard any feedback on them. The camera was hardwired from the back to an antenna on the nose of the camper. You could always tell who had them because they had a round bump on the front nose clip.

I had a Voyager and returned it after a couple of months. It was nice when it worked...always seemed to freeze when it was needed. Manufacturer said it was due to distance and 5th wheel setup. Needs a good booster. If one ever comes out that works...I will reconsider. Hope this helps some.

I was skeptical about the distance. A digital video signal can be affected by lots of objects including the metal frame on a Redwood.

Not on my RW....was a 40' Alpine. The distance was th problem. Would love to see one come out for 5th wheels. They are great when it works!

The gps is great - that's what Garmin survives on....
but not sure their camera is designed for up to a 50 to 60 foot range ....

Glad I saw this one! Our new truck has the Voyager monitor with room for 3 more cameras and a plug for the trailer camera next to the power plug at the back of the truck .
Dealer told us the price for the camera and wiring, plus labor, would be more than the wireless set up with camera and monitor . We were getting ready to put up with an extra monitor in the truck....Think I'll go back to plan A

Ya I'm hesitant to drop the 150 smacks for the Garmin camera until somebody else tries it first

It has an extension cable you can purchase to move the receiver forward on the trailer.

Bud, you're lucky. My backup partner has a tendency to get out of sight all the time, leaving me guessing.

My wife has a hard time grasping the concept that I need to see her to be effective. For now, I figure she will start screaming at me if I'm going to hit something.

I just remind Lois if she can't see me in the mirror, then I can't see her. Works every time, almost LOL

We just do the cellphone to my hands free in the truck ...
I hear all the swearing and screams - even if I don't see them

The wireless camera doesn't say things like "I told you the tree was there"

hahahaha -

When we bought our brands spanking new Montana in 2007, I had it parked in a canopy covered metal structure. When I pulled out I heard a BUUUUUNNNNNGGGG kind of church bell sound. My wife was pushing the wrong button on the walkie talkie yelling at me to tell me I was about to hit the metal column on the building with the wide swing I was making. I hit it and made the whole building hum. Fortunately the were able to just buff out the damage while they fixed some other damage.

Now I just let her get out of the truck for exercise, and do my thing. I just make sure I don't run over her.

Sure hope she isn't reading this....

Here's the trick.......get a toy truck and trailer and show your wife why at certain angles you can't see her in the mirrors. I've taught a lot of people how to back up big trucks with toys and this was what it took for Ginny to understand the concept.
