2015-2017 Ram Owners

Ram came out with a Technical Service Bulletin in Oct. 2016 TSB # 08-082-16 ITBM

Evidently a braking problem when the trailer is connected before starting the truck.
Seems that the controller works fine as long as you start the truck then plug in the 7 way.

Odd but that's what they say.

Ron, hadn't seen that TSB, interesting. But thank you for the phone call. Working great and no issues.

We have a 15 RAM and as far as I know, we have not had any issues.

I have read similar reports with some GMs, but in over 5 years have never seen a problem.

Ron - brings back memories on your fix with my Titan brake issues where both truck batteries were disconnected for several minutes then reconnected which enabled the brake controller signal.

The GM engineer, that designed the software used in my 2016 High Country, was very interested in this fix. GM had the software engineer call me directly after the GM dealer, the largest Chevy dealer in the US, could not resolve the signal issue. It was some surprise to me when I answered the phone. (Engineer to engineer talk was also fun!). His requested several electrical tests were conducted however all test data was spot on. Since that time GM had my truck software updated however I believe it was airbag deployment issues and not related to the brake software. The problem has not repeated. No trailer brakes on our fully loaded 36RL is a scary thought.

The engineer also commented on the Titan brake controller. In his GM R&D lab he has all the electric over hydraulic controllers on the market which are used for developing the truck trailer braking software. Titan brake controllers have the fastest response of all they work with per the engineer.
